Triple H Rejects Cody Rhodes’ Character Change Pitch After WWE WrestleMania
The WWE CCO, Triple H rejected an interesting creative pitch by Cody Rhodes after WrestleMania 42. The American Nightmare was absolutely prepared according to his pitch.
In the night 1 main event of WrestleMania 42, Cody Rhodes defended his WWE Championship against Randy Orton. The match was full of drama, as Randy’s ally, Pat McAfee was taken out at the start only to return towards the end as a referee. Orton shockingly delivered an RKO to McAfee, and their alliance was broken. However, Cody took advantage and defeated Orton to successfully retain his title.
After the match, Randy Orton attacked Cody with the WWE title belt and also took him out with the banned punt kick. As a result of the punt kick to the face, Rhodes got a huge scar around his left eye. After getting a terrible scar on the face, The American Nightmare had pitched an interesting idea to the head of creative, Triple H, but it eventually got rejected.
Cody Rhodes on Triple H rejecting his idea after WrestleMania 42
During his recent appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Cody Rhodes revealed that he had pitched the idea of wearing an eyepatch to cover the scar on his left eye, and also thought about an ‘eye patch Cody’ action figure:
We tried a little on the eye. I think we deemed that there was no way to cover this up. And I’ll tell you something funny—I thought, ‘I’m going to go to TV. I’m going to go to Monday Night Raw, I’m going to go to Friday Night SmackDown, I’m going to do an eye patch thing.’ I thought that would be cool. Wrestlers are always looking for something—let’s get a new action figure out of it, eye patch Cody.”
However, Cody disclosed that Triple H absolutely rejected the eye patch idea, and Cody also threw the eye patch backstage, but he doesn’t have any complaints.
Triple H told me absolutely not. And there might be a shot on Unreal of me throwing that eye patch down backstage, because I had it—I was ready to go. But hey, it comes with the territory more than anything. I had no complaints—it’s just a little battle scar, that’s all.” [h/t Ringside News]
It will be interesting to see what’s next for Cody Rhodes as the WWE Champion.
