World Champion Reveals Cody Rhodes Helped Secure AEW Deal

Cody Rhodes AEW Promo

An AEW Champion has revealed having close ties with Cody Rhodes, despite the latter’s departure from the company.

Rhodes is credited as one of the founding members of All Elite Wrestling, which was formally established on January 1, 2019. While he never became a world champion, he held the TNT Championship thrice.

The American Nightmare was also a well-liked figure and patron of WWE, but creative frustrations forced him to quit the promotion in 2016.

Rhodes was with AEW till mid-February 2022, after which he left due to personal issues.

While speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, the current AEW World Champion MJF revealed that he was still in touch with the 40-year-old, who now competes in WWE.

MJF credited Rhodes for getting him in front of Tony Khan, which ultimately secured him a contract.

Absolutely. Look, I’m not sitting here without Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes booked me for All In, which got me in front of Tony Khan, which got me signed to a contract. Like Punk, I hope whatever he’s doing, he’s happy right now. I mean, you would think he would be.

Cody Rhodes Might Compete In 3-Way Match At WrestleMania 42

Since dropping the Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre on January 9, Cody Rhodes has been in pursuit of reclaiming his lost gold.

However, he now faces a challenge not only from McIntyre but also from Jacob Fatu, who returned on the same taping of SmackDown and inadvertently cost Rhodes his championship.

With WWE building towards WrestleMania 42, Rhodes might find himself competing against both The Scottish Warrior and The Samoan Werewolf for the championship.

On the February 13 edition of the blue brand, Cody will compete in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match against Fatu and Sami Zayn.

The winner will join Randy Orton and LA Knight, who have already qualified.
