“I Am Unfazed By His Petty A**,” Says Cody Rhodes After Shocking WWE ‘Betrayal’
Cody Rhodes says he isn’t bothered by a recent major betrayal.
Cody Rhodes is the Undisputed WWE Champion. Sami Zayn, who is currently in the United States Title picture feuding with Tirck Williams since before WrestleMania 42, has been on and off in the WWE Title Picture. He faced Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, but lost the bout.
He has tried on multiple occasions to face his colleague and friend Cody Rhodes for the title, but hasn’t had a clear shot yet.
Zayn has been getting booed by the fans, which has led to a sort of heel turn for him in his current feud against the United States Champion Trick Williams, who won the title off Zayn at WrestleMania 42 and successfully defended it under a month later at Backlash on May 9th.
Zayn’s character has been undergoing a shift lately, and fans are still unsure of whether they want to cheer or boo him.
This past week on SmackDown, Zayn was heard bad-mouthing Cody Rhodes backstage while talking to Nick Aldis. Rhodes heard Zayn and challenged him to a match on the same night, which Zayn lost, but The American Nightmare was later attacked by Gunther, Rhodes’ opponent for their Title match at Clash in Italy, and put into a sleeper hold.
As Gunther continued to choke Rhodes out, Zayn watched but didn’t intervene and soon left the ring.
Cody Rhodes Talks About Sami Zayn After Betrayal
Speaking on ESPN First Take with Stephen A. Smith, ahead of Clash in Italy, Cody was asked about Zayn’s “betrayal.”
Betrayal is a dramatic word. I like a bit of drama but I am phlegmatic in my outlook on Sami Zayn. I am unfazed by his petty a** and that’s all it is. It’s petty.
…You said I’ve moved on (from Sami Zayn) in WWE you have to move on… Looking at WrestleMania 40 for example, I’m up on everyone’s shoulders. Everyone one in that ring with me at this point has turned on me since WrestleMania 40.
That’s what you have to do if you’re going to be in the Ric Flair spot. If you’re going to carry the chip, the best title in all of the game, you’ve got to get used to that.
People want you to have success, but not that much success. You got to move on. GUNTHER is what’s in front of us, that’s the mountain to climb.
Rhodes is no stranger to having had rivalries with friends. Recently, he fought Randy Orton in a battle for his WWE Title at WrestleMania 42, which Orton lost.
