CM Punk Reportedly To Leave AEW

A new report has indicated that former AEW World Champion CM Punk is set to leave the company following his backstage fight at All Out.

All Out should have been a big occasion for CM Punk as he returned to pay-per-view following his foot injury and recaptured the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley. However, the celebrations quickly turned sour as Punk took his opportunity at the post-show press conference to settle a few scores.

CM Punk took aim at The Young Bucks, Hangman Adam Page, MJF, and his former friend Colt Cabana with explosive remarks. This led to him being confronted backstage in his locker room by The Bucks where a fight broke out. Several stars and backstage personnel were suspended but now Punk, his friend and AEW producer Ace Steel, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega are the only ones that are believed to still be under suspension for what happened.

As a result, Tony Khan stripped Punk of the AEW World Title and stripped The Elite of the AEW Trios Title, leaving new champions to be crowned.

Now on his PWTorch.com audio show, Wade Keller has reported that Punk’s name was excluded on AEW Grand Slam when commentary was mentioning high-profile ROH World Champions – something Keller thinks points to the fact that Punk will not set foot in an AEW ring again:

“I think this is noteworthy but not surprising [that] he excluded CM Punk’s name as he talked about some of the biggest names who have held the title,” Keller said. “That’s a bit of a tell. As I talked with Jason Powell yesterday about – I am not expecting CM Punk to wrestle in AEW again.”

“I’m not saying it’s 100 percent sure thing but everything is pointing in the direction of some sort of buyout of his contract. We’ll learn more eventually about that situation.”

None of the currently suspended stars in AEW have been mentioned on air since the All Out pay-per-view. CM Punk is likely to miss a significant amount of time regardless of disciplinary issues as he is believed to have suffered a serious injury in the All Out main event.
