CM Punk Suffered Serious Injury: “I Could Have Died”
CM Punk recently opened up about a life-threatening injury he once suffered in the ring.
CM Punk is at the top of his game in WWE as the company’s World Heavyweight Champion.
The 47-year-old star, who made a major splash in WWE during his initial run in WWE between 2005 and 2014, quit the wrestling giant for almost a decade before rejoining in 2023 after a brief stint with their rival All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
This current version of CM Punk, although not the same person who rubbed many people the wrong way backstage during his initial run with his brutal honesty and arrogant nature, is deemed a corporate World Heavyweight Champion, and the character he portrays is that of a fighting champion babyface who is willing to give it all for the WWE fans.
During his long and storied wrestling career, Punk has suffered multiple injuries to a majority of his muscles and bones, according to him. The Second City Saint opened up recently in a podcast about one major injury that could have proven to be fatal.
CM Punk Talks About Near-Fatal Injury On Recent Podcast Appearance
Regular muscular sprains are routine for pro-wrestlers, but Punk said in a recent appearance on the Ross Tucker podcast that he has torn every possible muscle and mentioned tearing both his triceps.
You name it, I’ve probably done it. I’ve torn both triceps.”
He then mentions another where he got DDT’d on the mat, and it popped open.
Yeah. The last one—I got DDT’d, and when I hit the mat, the thing just—bang—popped.
However, Punk would then reveal a shocking injury that could potentially have cost him his life. He talks about the time he had a fractured skull. The Best In The World reveals that he experienced the injury when his head butted against another wrestler’s head, and the pair’s heads were sandwiched on the mat.
Well, let’s knock on wood here—let’s do one of those.
I mean, probably the worst one was a fractured skull. That was… that was pretty interesting.
My head hit another guy’s head, and we kind of sandwiched on the mat at the same time.”
CM Punk says that it got quite serious, and he laughs about it now because he made it out of the injury alive, but wouldn’t have been had it ended up proving fatal.
Yeah, that wasn’t fun. And it got pretty serious. We look back at it now and we all laugh, but I could have died—and it’s just funny now because I didn’t. Man, it would have stunk if I did.
CM Punk will face Roman Reigns and put his World Heavyweight title on the line Title on the line at WrestleMania 42 on night 2’s main event. He recently cut another one of his signature “pipebomb” promos on Raw and called out Pat McAfee and the TKO (WWE’s owners) higher-ups for high ticket prices for WrestleMania 42.
