CM Punk Admits He Wouldn’t Have Returned To WWE Under Vince McMahon

CM Punk WWE

CM Punk was away from WWE for nearly a decade.

He left the company in January 2014, shortly after competing in that year’s Royal Rumble match. After being absent from the Stamford-based promotion for almost ten years, Punk made his return at Survivor Series: WarGames in November 2023.

His departure was driven by several factors, including creative dissatisfaction, burnout, and a feeling of being disrespected. At the time Punk left WWE, Vince McMahon was in charge, whereas Triple H had taken over the creative reins by the time Punk returned.

Speaking about his 10-year hiatus from WWE in a recent interview with No Contest Wrestling with TJ Henderson and O’Shay Jackson Jr.,, CM Punk stated that if Vince McMahon were still running WWE, he would never have returned to the promotion.

“If Vince was still here, I don’t think anything was ever going to change. For me at least.”

CM Punk: “If I Never Came Back To Wrestling, I Still Think I Had A Pretty Solid Career.”

CM Punk also acknowledged that during the time he was away, he could have worked more with AJ Styles and John Cena, but he said he does not have any deep regrets about his decision.

He added that even if he had never returned to wrestling, he would still be satisfied with his career, as he believes he had a very solid run.

“Can I think about, man, that’s 10 years… I could’ve worked with AJ a whole bunch, I could’ve done more with Cena… I think I did pretty good… If I never came back to wrestling, I still think I had a pretty solid career.”

Since returning to WWE in 2023, Punk has managed to resolve conflicts with WWE leadership, especially Triple H, someone he had issues with during his previous run. Their dynamic has since evolved positively, and the two now enjoy working together in WWE.
