CM Punk Matches Announced For Collision And Forbidden Door

CM Punk will be a busy guy in Toronto since he’s scheduled for a match on Collision and one night later at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

For the first time in over nine months, CM Punk appeared on AEW Dynamite at the Wintrust Arena in his hometown of Chicago. While AEW did not advertise Punk for a Dynamite appearance, it was reported that Punk would be there and he certainly made his presence felt early in the show.

The opening tag team match on Dynamite saw The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn) beat The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy) in controversial fashion because Juice Robinson & Jay White got involved. It appears as though The Gunns are a part of Bullet Club Gold due to past interactions with Robinson/White, but nothing was officially announced.

After the match, the heels attacked the Hardys, which led to Ricky Starks making the save. The Hardys disappeared at that point, then AEW Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) tried to save Starks. The fans knew what was coming next with “CM Punk” chants, so that led to the hometown hero and two-time AEW World Champion Punk running down to the ring. The babyface foursome of CM Punk, FTR and Ricky Starks stood tall while the heels retreated.

CM Punk did a promo saying he’s not even supposed to be a Dynamite guy, but he was likely there due to the show being in Chicago where he lives. Punk would go on to challenge the foursome of White, Robinson and The Gunns to an 8-man tag team match against Punk, Starks and FTR on AEW Collision this Saturday night in Toronto. The match was made official shortly after that.

It was also announced that CM Punk will be part of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament as one of eight men in the tournament.

Since CM Punk is part of the tournament, it also means his first-round match in the Owen Hart Cup is taking place this Sunday, June 25th at Forbidden Door, which is also at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto just like Forbidden Door is.
