The 1 Thing That Makes Chelsea Green Stand Out In WWE

Chelsea Green entrance at Saturday Night's Main Event

Chelsea Green recently reflected on her wrestling journey and spoke about what it is about her that helped her get to where she is.

Chelsea Green is a charismatic and entertaining wrestler. She is one half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions with TNA star Ethan Page and has also had two splendidly entertaining WWE Women’s United States Title runs; her most recent one ending in a loss to Giulia on the first SmackDown episode of 2026.

Her pompous, overconfident, and arrogant on-screen character is one that fans love, and her comedic skills that keep these traits from becoming too intense are all things that have helped the star become a formidable force in the Women’s locker room.

However, Chelsea Green’s journey was far from easy. She wrestled in the independent circuit and TNA brands before her run with WWE, and was even released by the company barely a year and a half later during a budget-cuts period in 2021.

Chelsea Green Opens Up About What Made Her Character Click

Chelsea Green’s eventual re-signing in 2023 and rise to upper-mid card status have all been part of an arduous journey filled with multiple rejections, Green reflects, in a recent interview with Denise Salcedo on YouTube.

Green says that she can’t believe how far she and her husband, Matt Cardona (also a WWE star, FKA Zack Ryder), have come in the wrestling business despite struggles and rejections. Cardona, who was also fired from WWE, was recently brought back as a full-timer on the same episode of SmackDown on January 2nd, 2026, when Green lost her title bout.

It’s so crazy, Matt (Cardona) and I were just talking about, we would have never guessed, when we first met nine, almost 10 years ago, that when I was at TNA and he was at WWE, then I would get to WWE, then he would get fired, then I would get fired, then I would get hired and he wouldn’t get hired, years later he would get hired and I would be a double champion and all my dreams would be coming true and I’d travel the world and I represent the company.

All these things are so crazy but I do feel like the journey to get here was so hard, that now that I’m here there’s not one person in this world that can say I didn’t work for it.

Chelsea Green believes that her relatability factor gets her over with the fans. Because when the makeup comes off, she’s just a normal girl: a reason why many rejected her, claiming that she had nothing special about her, but she ended up realizing that that one aspect of her is what was special.

There’s a lot of chosen ones in wrestling, you see that happen, the machine has scooped you up and thrust you to the top, it’s amazing and some unbelievable stars come from it. But for me, my story is so different and relatable and I didn’t get everything handed to me, I was told no so many times.

There were a lot of people that told me there was nothing unique about me, and I figured out my niche and I think that’s really special and that’s what fans kind of attach to, like she is one of us.

When I go home, and I take my make-up off and I blend in at publics when I’m shopping for my groceries, I am just a normal girl. There isn’t necessarily anything special about me, but that’s what makes me special, is the relatability I think.
