Chad Gable has earned some massive praise from a WWE Hall of Famer.

For the past year, Chad Gable hasn’t wrestled using the name that WWE fans know him by. Instead, he wrestled as El Grande Americano when the character started in the summer of 2025.

A shoulder injury sidelined Gable for most of the second half of 2025 before returning at January’s Royal Rumble.

Since Ludwig Kaiser took over the El Grande Americano character and did a great job with it, Gable returned as the Original El Grande Americano, which led to him becoming a massive heel in the story, since the Kaiser version of Americano had earned the fans’ praise, especially in Mexico.

At the AAA Noche de Los Grandes event in Monterrey, Mexico, on May 30th, Chad Gable revealed that he’s the Original El Grande Americano. It was part of a Mask vs. Mask match against El Grande Americano in front of a sold-out crowd with over 14,000 fans in attendance.

In a match that saw both men bleed while wrestling in their masks, the Original El Grande Americano wasn’t able to use help from his friends, a low blow, and other cheap tactics to get the win. Instead, El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) got the win with a running headbutt to the chest.

Post match, the Original El Grande Americano revealed himself as Chad Gable, as we all knew. The fans cheered and even chanted “Gable” for him.

Chad Gable said he was born on March 8, 1986, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States of America. Gable said he wrestled in the Olympic Games in Greco-Roman Wrestling, and he’s wrestled as a pro wrestler for 13 years. Chad said this is his beautiful family, and the fans cheered. There were more “Gable” chants. Gable said he doesn’t know when or how, but he said he will be back in AAA.

Chad Gable’s Performance Earned A Lot of Praise From JBL

The commentary team for WWE’s AAA broadcasts is Corey Graves and WWE Hall of Famers John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) and Rey Mysterio.

While speaking about AAA’s Mask vs. Mask match on Busted Open Radio, JBL praised the performances of both wrestlers and specifically mentioned Gable as the best wrestler alive.

“Mexican fans are just passionate fans. They love their Lucha Libre and they love their stars. They get into things and they enjoy it. That’s what you saw – them at their very best.

And I thought you saw wrestling at its very best. I was absolutely blown away by what they did in the match.

Kaiser created all this. Kaiser created all this with learning the language, not just learning the language – as we used to say in Texas, he wasn’t learning Spanish, he was learning Mexican. The local dialect language was what he was learning, which was absolutely amazing, what he’s done.

When Chad first came back, we’re sitting there thinking about it, it’s easy to be a campy heel like he was in WWE with the videos with the varsity club or whatever the heck it was.

But then all of a sudden to try to get heat down in Mexico, that’s different level. It’s not even the same business. He had a match down there with La Parka that was just phenomenal.

I think Chad Gable‘s the best wrestler in the world, and I don’t think it’s close. That was absolutely amazing what he and Kaiser did.”

Chad Gable did not appear on the June 1st episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, but the AAA Mask vs. Mask match was pushed heavily during the Raw broadcast.
