Bryan Danielson Facing Former World Champion At AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door
Bryan Danielson is in a huge match at the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door PPV when he’s set to face a former World Champion.
The third annual AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door PPV is set to take place on June 30th in Long Island, New York. It’s a show that will be headlined by Swerve Strickland defending the AEW World Championship against the International Champion Will Ospreay in a match that is just for Swerve’s title.
Meanwhile, the 2024 edition of the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournaments kicked off on AEW Dynamite in Fairfax, VA. There’s a big prize for the winners of the Owen Hart Cup this year because they will get to challenge for the AEW World Title and AEW Women’s World Title at the All In London PPV on August 25th.
On the men’s side of the Owen Hart Cup on Dynamite, Pac defeated Claudio Castagnoli in their Quarterfinal match.
We also learned that former WWE Champion Bryan Danielson will face off against former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi in the Quarterfinals. Their match will take place at the Forbidden Door PPV.
Whoever wins the Bryan Danielson-Shingo Takagi will move on to the Semifinals where they will face Pac. At the end of Dynamite in Fairfax, Pac had a staredown with Danielson in a moment that certainly teased the possibility of those who men meeting in the Semifinals.
An interesting factoid about the Danielson-Takagi match is that they have only met once before. That was at a Dragon Gate USA event back in 2010 when Danielson picked up the win over Takagi.
Danielson has yet to win a championship in his three-year AEW career, but he has challenged for a few titles. In his WWE career, Danielson was a five-time WWE World Champion. As for Takagi, he was the IWGP World Champion in 2021 and remains a top star in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Bryan Danielson Is Undefeated At AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door
In the main event of AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door in 2023, Bryan Danielson competed in a dream match against NJPW legend Kazuchika Okada. The two men put on a wrestling clinic while Danielson suffered a broken arm during the match and kept on wrestling. Danielson eventually got the win while showing how tough he was because he kept on wrestling with a broken arm.
Danielson did not wrestle at the first Forbidden Door PPV in 2022 due to injury.
