Breaking: Carmelo Hayes Loses WWE US Title; New Champion Crowned On SmackDown

The night began on an unfortunate note for former WWE United States Champion, Sami Zayn, after he received some unfortunate news from the SmackDown General Manager, Nick Aldis.

Adis was talking backstage with Trick Williams and told him that he will be involved in a match at WrestleMania, but also broke the news to Sami that it doesn’t look like the Canadian would make it to the Show of Shows.

Zayn, who had already been down about not winning a World Championship, seemed to go into a darker hole before a smile flashed across his face. We later learned that he had just found his way to WrestleMania 42.

Sami Zayn becomes a two-time WWE US Champion

Aldis told Zayn that with WrestleMania season in full flow, he needed to sort out the championships matches and Zayn took advantage of Carmelo Hayes’ WWE United States Title Open Challenge tonight.

After an intense match between the two former NXT Champions, Zayn ultimately emerged victorious after hitting a Helluva Kick to Melo. Trick Williams, who was present at ringside, knocked Hayes with his coffee mug to the head and Zayn capitalized on it.

Its only fitting that Sami won the belt back via the same United States Title Open Challenge that he himself brought back into existence during his first regin as US Champion. With this defeat, Melo’s incredibly successful reign as US Champion ended at 88 days.
