Bobby Fish Explains Why He Kicked Out Of CM Punk’s GTS

CM Punk with Bobby Fish in headlock

Former AEW star Bobby Fish has explained why he appeared to kick out of CM Punk’s GTS finisher despite it being the end of the match.

CM Punk caused no end of controversy after taking aim at Hangman Adam Page, Colt Cabana, and even AEW EVPs The Elite in comments made at the post-All Out press conference.

His tirade led to a fight backstage and the suspensions of everyone involved in the fracas. Additionally, Punk has been stripped of the AEW World Championship which he only won that night – although this is likely to have happened anyway as the star suffered an injury during the bout that could see him out of action until 2023.

One man who hasn’t been shy about airing his opinions on CM Punk since all this took place is former AEW star Bobby Fish.

Fish accused Punk of being “a c*nt” following a match between the pair on Dynamite on October 27th, 2021. He also claimed Punk “should be grateful” he laid down his shoulders for him on TV.

However, footage has since surfaced on social media showing Bobby Fish kicking out as the referee counted three when Punk hit him with his finishing move, the GTS.

During an interview with Joey G of Wrestling Headlines, Bobby Fish gave his side of the story.

“The match that I had with Punk, where things go wonky at the end of that match with the kick out on the GTS, which isn’t even his move.

“That’s me giving into my desire to be a little bit petty in that regard. It’s KENTA’s move and you didn’t even have the decency to change the name.”

“Regardless, the confusion at the end of our match was the fact that he did what’s called ‘the office’ or an ‘iggy.’ This is some inside baseball stuff here. He did that before the three count was over.

“Having been in the business for a long time, I recognize what that is and have done it myself to somebody to say, in our way, ‘whatever, good match.’ He did it before the three count was over. That’s also a way to alert your opponent that, ‘Hey, let’s change something.’”

“In that moment, I can liken it to what Tony Khan might have been feeling when he’s going off on the EVPs. You don’t know what to do. In that moment, I know for myself, I had to make a split-second decision, couldn’t weigh out this or that.

“I had to kick out or not kick out and lose the moment forever. I kicked out. Being whatever it was.”
