“Best Tag Team Match Ever On American TV” – Dave Meltzer On AEW Collision Match

Dave Meltzer

Dave Meltzer has high praise for a bout on the most recent episode of AEW Collision.

The July 15th episode of AEW Collision saw Jay White and Juice Robinson go to war with FTR in a two out of three falls match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The bout went just under an hour and was well-received by fans and critics alike. Speaking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Metlzer called it the best American tag team match to ever air on television.

“I thought that was the best American tag team match ever on television. I think there are pay-per-view matches that are comparable, but as far as on regular television — to me the best one that I ever thought was Midnight Express and Fantastics. The have been a lot of matches in AEW that are in that league too, but I think this one was a notch better.

I think — this match, again, is one of the best matches of the year, and the best tag team match of the year. And it’s two straight weeks for these guys because they had an incredible match the week before.”

Following AEW Collison, the company aired a one-hour broadcast of Battle of the Belts IV. Due to severe thunderstorms in Calgary, the broadcast was fraught with technical difficulties, and the finish of the match between Toni Storm and Taya Valkyrie was not shown as it happened. Meltzer revealed on the same episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that he contacted Tony Khan with advice about how to handle the technical difficulties during the show.
