Badly Injured AEW Star Vows To Break Medical Science & Return In 2026

One AEW star has suggested they could be back in the ring in 2026 despite suffering a very serious injury.

During the October 11th 2025, edition of AEW Collision, Kota Ibushi suffered a broken femur in a match with Josh Alexander.

While Alexander had Ibushi in a Fireman’s Carry position on the middle rope in the corner, the pair lost balance and fell backwards out of the ring. Once they’d crashed to the floor, Ibushi immediately grabbed his leg, and Alexander got back in the ring as his rival was counted out.

In the midst of the post-match angle, Ibushi was tended to by doctors and later taken away in an ambulance. After the show, Tony Khan paid tribute to Ibushi, describing him as one of the greatest wrestlers he’s ever seen.

Kota Ibushi Wants To Help Kenny Omega In AEW

With Kenny Omega once again embroiled in issues with The Don Callis Family in AEW, Kota Ibushi took to social media to apologise for being unable to help his long-time partner out. However, Ibushi did raise some eyebrows as he suggested he could be back in the ring in 2026:

I’m so sorry, Kenny. There’s no guarantee, but medically, I have one year and nine months left. I’ll cure you in nine unnecessary months! That means I’ll be back in 2026.

I’ve caused trouble for Kenny. In return,I can’t say for sure, but I’ll do it! I’ve gained the power to send out new energy. Shall I teach you bald guys that you have no chance of winning?” Ibushi wrote. “Yesterday, for the first time in a while, I was able to enter the Budokan in costume for a live performance by the band that plays my entrance song. I think I’ve fulfilled another ambition. And to Tony Khan, I’ll be making a comeback once again!

I’m not sure if my English will be understood, but I’ll do my best anyway.

Ibushi has endured an injury-hit run since sustaining a serious shoulder injury back in 2021. The star didn’t return to the ring for 18 months, but disaster struck again in January 2024 when he suffered a major ankle injury while dealing with an existing ankle issue.
