Backstage News Regarding The Rock On WWE Raw Day 1

The Rock was featured in a lengthy segment on the Day 1 edition of WWE Raw and a new report has some more information about if he went too long.

On the first episode of WWE Monday Night Raw from San Diego, Triple H confirmed reports that the company was bringing in a former WWE Champion. No names were announced, but as New Year’s Day went on, there were rumors that it might be The Rock.

In the hours prior to Raw taking place, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was at the Rose Bowl college football game in Los Angeles. In the background of a photo at the Rose Bowl, WWE President Nick Khan was with him. Johnson and Khan have known eachother since childhood since their families lived near eachother. Nick’s sister Nahnatchka Khan was also one of the co-creators of the Young Rock television show.

Since Raw was in San Diego and The Rock was already in Los Angeles, it made sense for him to be on Raw and for WWE to put him on the show.

That led to the segment with the former WWE Champion. There was a Jinder Mahal promo bragging about how he was the best WWE Champion of all time and also insulting the audience. That’s when The Rock appeared to shut Mahal up. After Rock got the crowd chanting “Day 1 Douchebag” at Mahal, it ended with The Rock dropping Mahal with a spinebuster and People’s Elbow.

After clearing the ring, The Rock teased that he was going after Roman Reigns by saying that he might grab some food and sit at the head of the table, which is a reference to Reigns calling himself the “Head of the Table” of their family.

It has since been reported by Fightful Select that The Rock’s segment with Mahal went about seven minutes longer than what was planned.

The entire 21:55 segment was posted to WWE’s YouTube channel. On YouTube alone, it has nearly 3 million views as of this writing.

The Rock Teases More WWE Appearances

After his appearance on Raw, The Rock went on Instagram to say that it hits differently and that “we’re just getting started.”

It all hits differently.
The theme, the crowd, the connection, the reaction, the electricity, the chills – the mana.
Helluva way to bring in 2024.
Grateful, blessed & inspired to forever be,
the People’s Champ.

What that means officially is unknown at this point, but there are plenty of rumors that he will face Roman Reigns in a singles match perhaps at WrestleMania or even Elimination Chamber in Australia is a possibility as well.
