AJ Styles made a surprising revelation about Road Dogg and WWE.

AJ Styles first made his WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble. His appearance on the PLE was a huge surprise since many fans didn’t think that Styles would ever show up on WWE TV because he was once the face of TNA.

AJ Styles spent the past several years competing in the sports entertainment juggernaut. He had a successful run in the promotion and won numerous World Titles. One of his biggest feuds was with Samoa Joe when the two battled over the WWE Championship. During an episode of WWE SmackDown, Samoa Joe showed up on AJ Styles’ property when the Phenomenal One was in the ring. Samoa Joe approached the door as Styles panicked. Joe rang the doorbell and said, “Daddy’s home,” as SmackDown went off the air. Styles recently discussed how this segment came to be.

AJ Styles revealed the original plan Road Dogg had for the Samoa Joe invasion angle

During the Phenomenal Breakthrough podcast, AJ Styles revealed that he wasn’t feeling parts of the angle that Vince McMahon pitched to him.

“I remember there was a time with Samoa Joe when we did the thing where he’s coming to my house….. And I was like, call the cops on him. You know, get his dog. So, I wasn’t feeling that as much as Vince was, I think. Because it didn’t make much sense.”

Styles said that Road Dogg had the idea to use a green screen to trick Samoa Joe into thinking he was at home when he was in the arena. That way, he could get the jump on the Samoan Submission Machine. However, Vince turned down the idea because he felt people wouldn’t know what a green screen is.

“And there was a time where, you know, I defended Road Dogg as a writer, you know, in the past few years or whatever it was. And I got a lot of flak for that, but I still stand by that. Because he had an idea. He’s like, ‘Dude, what if you were doing….Maybe I told you the story before, I don’t know. What if you were doing this at your home and Joe’s talking about going there? And the green screen falls off and you were never at home and by the time Joe really realizes it, we’re sliding the ring. Put it on him.’”

“And Vince is interesting. [He’s like,] ‘Nobody knows what a green screen is.’ All these streamers and all these kids, they don’t know. I thought that was such a great idea and it was that point I go, ‘Man, Road Dogg had some really good ideas and never got to do them because they would have been shot down.’”

Road Dogg’s run as part of the WWE creative team ended earlier this year.
