What AEW’s Tony Khan Reportedly Thinks About Paramount-WBD Merger
Tony Khan apparently has a positive reaction to Paramount’s acquisition of WBD.
In a deal reported to be valued at a whopping $111 billion, Paramount is said to have agreed to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, a major media company heavily involved in the movie and TV industry.
The reason it relates to pro wrestling is that Tony Khan’s AEW promotion airs its television shows, Dynamite and Collision, on WBD properties TBS and TNT, respectively.
When AEW launched in 2019, it started airing on TNT in October 2019 and was then moved to TBS. In 2025, the HBO Max streaming service also carried AEW programming as well.
While Paramount has yet to specifically discuss AEW’s future on television, there has been some skepticism that they would want to keep AEW shows on their television networks after the deal expires in 2018.
Tony Khan Seems Happy With Paramount Acquiring WBD
It was reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW Owner and booker Tony Khan is happy with the Paramount/WBD deal.
“The most important news story in wrestling, as far as the future and viability of AEW, is just a tiny piece of the puzzle in the proposed Paramount purchase of WBD.
There is a ton of speculation as to what it means. Those close to Tony Khan say that he was thrilled when the news came out, feeling this was the best possible scenario for him. Others are claiming it’s the death knell because Paramount, either to cut back on costs, or due to pressure from TKO given they have contracts with UFC and Zuffa Boxing, will get rid of TKO’s only real significant wrestling competition.”
AEW’s next pay-per-view, Revolution, is the first PPV of 2026 and it takes place on March 15th in Los Angeles.
