Two AEW stars are said to have “almost got physical” over a fallout that has seemingly seen a long time and popular tag team completely fall apart.

Santana and Ortiz burst into AEW as part of Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle group in 2019. The former IMPACT Tag Team Champions made a huge splash as part of the group and stole the show in Blood and Guts and Stadium Stampede matches.

As part of the Blackpool Combat Club contingent in the 2022 Blood and Guts match Santana suffered a serious knee injury. Despite that, his team went on to capture the victory over The Jericho Appreciation Society thanks to Claudio Castagnoli.

Rumours of unrest between Santana and Ortiz surfaced around that time and now speaking on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, former WCW star Konnan confirmed things were not well between the pair to the point that Santana and Eddie Kingston almost came to blows over things:

“It breaks my heart because I spent a lot of time with them and I’ve said before that they’re like my sons. I heard it almost got physical with Santana and Kingston over this. It’s not a good look, bro. I really hate seeing that these two guys who could have gone to WWE and really f*cking blown up, that they separated.”

“I can see Santana when his contract is up, leaving. Ortiz is very chill and laid back. Santana is more of a hothead. Ortiz’s was like, ‘Hey, they ain’t doing sh*t with us’, and Santana’s like, ‘They ain’t doing sh*t with us’, and he’s right. Ortiz is more like ‘We’re getting paid and are taken care of’, and he was comfortable in his role and Santana wants more.”

Konnan also shed light on the huge offer made to Hulk Hogan to main event Triplemania for AAA before The Hulkster retired from the ring.
