Following several weeks of teasing a major announcement, Tony Khan has revealed that he is the new owner of Ring of Honor.

AEW President Tony Khan had been teasing that his upcoming announcement would be a “game-changer” for the wrestling industry. Khan even compared the upcoming deal to the First Dance event where CM Punk made his triumphant return to professional wrestling after seven years away from the ring.

On the March 2nd episode of Dynamite, Khan took to the ring with Tony Schiavone to kick off the show with his big reveal.

After thanking AEW fans for keeping the company going through the pandemic, Khan spoke about how Ring of Honor came into being 20 years ago and then made the shock announcement that he had bought the company.

The press release marking the announcement confirmed that the deal also includes Ring of Honor’s vast video library. You can find the full press release below.

Hours after the announcement, Fightful Select provided more details about the purchase. They revealed that, aside from Khan, there had been “multiple overtures” to buy the company since 2020. Fightful added that one source had said that “another offer came and Joe Koff and Sinclair wanted to go that direction.”

Many within WWE were seemingly under the impression that Tony Khan had instead bought the video library for a Japanese promotion – but New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Talent booked to appear on Supercard of Honor in April were apparently unaware of the deal and found out at the same time as the Dynamite audience. There are few people still under contract with the promotion, show dates had been scheduled through to the end of the year. It is currently unclear if these will go ahead, or if the Sinclair syndication is part of the deal.

With regard to Supercard of Honor itself, the card wasn’t complete before the announcement and some within ROH were unsure if any AEW stars would appear on the show.

So far, there has been no confirmation of how much Tony Khan paid for ROH, although Fightful report it could be between $20 million up to $40 million.

Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor will take place in Fort-Worth, Texas on April 1st. The show will be the company’s first since going on hiatus in late 2021.
