AEW News: Two Changes To Double or Nothing PPV Tonight, Stadium Stampede Match Note
There are changes to the AEW Double or Nothing event that takes place tonight from Jacksonville, Florida. For information on how to order the show on pay-per-view, visit AEWrestling.com for info right here.
Rey Fenix is out of the Casino Ladder Match due to a rough landing on a dive out to the floor on Dynamite on Wednesday. Basically, the wrestlers didn’t catch Fenix and he took a huge bump on the floor. The AEW twitter account noted that Fenix isn’t expected to miss a lot of time, but they probably want to be cautious and that’s why he’s not wrestling tonight. Joey Janela will be in the match in Fenix’s place.
Also, Britt Baker is out of her match against Kris Statlander due to a knee injury. During her tag team match on Dynamite, Statlander and tag team partner Hikaru Shida gave Nyla Rose a body slam that sent Rose’s full body weight crashing on Baker’s knee. It was a very sloppy spot that shouldn’t have happened. Baker might have a torn ACL that could see her miss 7-9 months, but that hasn’t been announced yet. Anyway, AEW announced that Statlander will now face Penelope Ford at Double or Nothing tonight.
Regarding the Stadium Stampede 10-man tag team match that’s taking place at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, it was apparently taped last night according to Wrestling Observer Live’s Bryan Alvarez. The rest of Double or Nothing is expected to take place live tonight. It was noted by Bryan that they taped the Stadium Stampede match in order to edit some things into the match. For example, Matt Hardy changed his gear multiple times in a tag team match on Dynamite, so they might do some things like that and perhaps other “Broken” Matt elements into the mat.
Chris Jericho was likely very pleased with how the match went and tweeted about it early this morning.
The #StadiumStampede is one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of in my 30 years in the wrestling business. No joke…don’t miss it LIVE on PPV TONIGHT! @AEWrestling pic.twitter.com/3rDXrgVqmU
