The John Report: AEW Dynamite 05/20/20 Review

TJR Wrestling

Welcome to the AEW Dynamite review on TJRWrestling. It’s the final episode of Dynamite leading into the Double or Nothing PPV on May 23. We know most of the card going into this show, but there might be more that gets added to it. We’ll have a preview for Double or Nothing on Friday morning and I’ll have a live review on Saturday night as well.

Before I start, I want to encourage you guys reading this to comment at the bottom of the post. The views for the AEW reviews have been good, but I’m not seeing a lot of comments. I’ll blame myself for some of that because sometimes I’m not that active in the comments and I know you guys will want to interact with me. However, I promise I’ll take a look after this review goes up. Don’t be shy. Please comment. Thank you.

This is episode #34 of AEW Dynamite from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL. Follow me on Twitter @johnreport. Thanks to Melo Man for the banner up top. Here’s my AEW Dynamite TV review archive.

There was an opening video package talked about the big matches at Double or Nothing on Saturday. They mentioned Moxley vs. Lee is the main event of Double or Nothing because it’s the AEW World Title, so I assume it goes on last.

The Inner Circle group was shown arriving in a limo at Daily’s Place. The group’s leader Chris Jericho had a baseball bat as Alex Marvez asked them questions and they said they had something planned for The Elite. When Marvez asked what it was, they said it was a surprise and they left. The Dynamite intro video aired.

There were wrestlers surrounding the ring just like they have been in previous weeks. The announce team of Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross and Excalibur plugged what is coming up this week.

The masked wrestler named Ten entered for a match with Brodie Lee, who had the AEW World Title that he stole. They had four other Dark Order members with them.

Brodie Lee said he wanted to address the viewers at home as he stared into the hard camera. Lee told Ten to take a knee, so he did. Lee said that he’s a powerful supreme athlete in the prime of his career at the top of his game. Lee said that he cannot walk on water, but he is no God, he is a man that has come into possession with a very special piece – the AEW Title. Lee said that he operates at a higher level, an elite level and they are the lions of AEW and results speak for themselves. Lee said that on Saturday he has to win not only to satisfy his hunger and desire, but to pay off the loyalty and love of these men. Lee told Ten he always knew he was special, he picked him and now this is the moment to shine. Lee told Ten he is a “high knight” of the Dark Order and Lee wanted Ten to hurt Jon Moxley for him. Lee and friends went to the back.

Analysis: Lee just told Ten that he is special while the audience knows Ten is going to lose in under five minutes in the next match, so it makes Lee look like a dumbass leader. Just saying.

Jon Moxley made his entrance by walking in from a different part of the arena and he’s 10-0 in AEW this year. Moxley is the current AEW World Champion that doesn’t have the title with him.

Ten vs. Jon Moxley

Moxley with a running high knee and a capture suplex that sent Ten across the ring. Moxley with a suplex into a slam. Moxley choked Ten with his boot, so referee Aubrey Edwards made him move back and Ten hit Moxley with a forearm to the back. Ten kicked Moxley off the apron to the floor and Ten whipped Moxley into the barricade. Ten with a slam onto the edge of the ring apron. Back in the ring, Ten hit a ripcord Cutter followed by punches and an elbow drop. Moxley came back with hard chops to the chest, but then he ran right into a spinebuster by Ten. When Ten picked Moxley up, Moxley slipped out of it and hit a double arm DDT. Moxley hit a Gotch Style Piledriver like a cradle piledriver and he didn’t cover because he wanted Brodie Lee to come out. Moxley hit a lifting Paradigm Shift DDT for the pinfall win in about four minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Jon Moxley

Analysis: *3/4 A clean and decisive win for Moxley as you would expect in this setting against a guy that’s not established. Ten got a bit of offense, but it was no surprise that Moxley was able to put him away.

Post match, Moxley tossed two chairs into the ring and he got the microphone. Moxley put Ten’s left arm in between a chair while standing on the chair. Moxley said he didn’t know the strategy behind Mr. Brodie stealing his property, but he sees it like Lee is trying to punk him out. Moxley said he won’t chase Lee around like a geek, so he’ll give Lee ten seconds or else Moxley will break Ten’s arm. Lee appeared on the video screen in the backstage area. Lee said all Mox had to do was ask and Saturday night it’s about the two of them. Lee told Mox that he made this personal. Lee said they have to make sacrifices, so for tonight, he’s leaving.

Moxley said “see ya Saturday” and Moxley used a steel chair to hit the other steel chair that led to Ten hurting his arm. Moxley left while Ten was writhing in pain.

Analysis: The build for Moxley vs. Lee hasn’t been great because there was just one attack and stealing the title. Even without a strong build, I think they’ll have a quality match together especially because they have wrestled dozens of times in their careers.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman made his entrance with the big man Wardlow by his side. Tony called MJF a “jerk ass” which was pretty funny. MJF is 6-0 in AEW in 2020. They showed highlights from last week with MJF tossing Marko Stunt into the barricade.

(Commercial)

Marko Stunt of the Jurassic Express group entered as “Mr. Fun Size” and he’s 5-6 in AEW this year. I don’t recall seeing five wins. That must be on Dark, which I don’t watch.

The announcers sent their condolences to the late great Shad Gaspard with JR saying most of it. That was nice of them.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman (w/Wardlow) vs. Marko Stunt

MJF with a body slam followed by a bearhug, Stunt broke free and MJF blocked a sunset flip attempt. MJF with a belly to belly overhead suplex. MJF grabbed Stunt’s hand, put a finger in the nose and then in the mouth, which led to MJF laughing about a nose pick. Stunt with a slap, a kick to the shin and Stunt ran the ropes leading to MJF hitting a clothesline. Wardlow choked Stunt on the bottom rope while the referee was distracted by MJF and then MJF did a hair grab to toss Stunt across the ring. MJF told the announcers to say this is Jungle Boy’s future, but then Stunt gave MJF a hurricanrana into the turnbuckle. Stunt with two dropkicks, MJF avoided a third dropkick and Stunt came back with a jumping knee to the face. MJF charged, Stunt sent him out of the ring, MJF pulled the ring apron and Stunt broke free with a toss into the steel steps. When Stunt ran the ropes, MJF hit him with a forearm. MJF hit the double arm shoulderbreaker into the Salt of the Earth armbar submission for the win after about six minutes.

Winner by submission: Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Analysis: ** A decent match to put over MJF ahead of his PPV match. If they went only three minutes it would have been more dominant for MJF, but I guess there was a need for Stunt to get some offense. I’m not that interested whenever Stunt is in a match. I get that he’s kind of like AEW’s Spike Dudley, but Spike was better than him and a lot more interesting to me.

Post match, MJF said that Marko did a good job by lasting longer than he thought. MJF said he was going to let one of his rats kiss Stunt, but then he added nobody would touch Marko’s lips. MJF put his diamond ring on his pinky and then gave Marko a “kiss” by punching him in the head. The team of Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy saved their buddy Stunt. The heels retreated with Wardlow having a staredown with Luchasaurus, but MJF wanted Wardlow to leave.

Analysis: They haven’t done that much to promote MJF vs. Jungle Boy, but I expect them to have a good match since they work well together.

There were highlights shown of Cody and Lance Archer brawling on Dynamite last week ahead of their TNT Title Tournament match.

The legendary Jake “The Snake” Roberts made his entrance for a promo faceoff.

(Commercial)

Arn Anderson was up next as the coach of Cody while Jake is Lance Archer’s manager. There was a table in the ring along with two chairs and Tony Schiavone was in the ring to moderate it.

Face to Face: Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Arn Anderson

Roberts said this is almost surreal to sit across the table from Arn after all these years, but never in the ring against eachother. Roberts said that people have dreams, they have nightmares and we all know those aren’t real, but Lance Archer is real while adding that Lance has destroyed everything put in front of him. Roberts said that Cody has even sacrificed his own brother just to avoid Archer, but there are no more excuses. Roberts said that Archer’s a mean son of a bitch that will rip Cody’s damn heart out. Roberts asked if this is Arn’s weekend pass from the home.

Anderson said that Roberts almost made him believe him and said this is surreal. Anderson said it was a dream match if Jake and Arn battled it out. Anderson said that they were credible. Anderson said he could see the evil just permeating, he heard it and he saw it. Arn realized the snake was the distraction because what you have to worry about is in the eyes – it’s evil. Roberts said that he’s been to hell and back, so one more trip with Arn wouldn’t be so bad. Roberts said “any time, any place” suggesting a fight. Anderson said decorum instead.

Anderson said that “Iron” Mike Tyson is going to present the championship at Double or Nothing whether it’s Cody or Archer. Anderson said that Tyson has free reign that will allow him to do anything he wants and he said he’s honored to share the floor with Tyson. Arn asked if Jake will throw the snake on Tyson. Jake said that whatever he throws at Tyson will take him down and he said Archer wants to knock out Tyson for fun and he knows Archer can do it. Roberts wanted that “bimbo Brandi” to present the title.

Anderson said that Cody Rhodes looked him in the eye saying he didn’t want to win the TNT Title for admiration of fans, but he has to win this. Arn said Cody is not just Dusty’s son and Dustin’s business, but he’s a leader of this company that has made this company the product that it is. Anderson said that Cody has earned it. Anderson said he had one more bit of information and he noted that Jake is doing DDP Yoga. Anderson said he wanted Jake to be real limber when Arn hits him with a spinebuster and shoves his head where the sun don’t shine.

Roberts threw the table over and wanted to fight Arn, but three referees showed up to break it up before anything physical happened. Jake left while Arn was in the ring.

Analysis: This was really good. That’s no surprise since they are two of the best promo guys ever. I liked how they did a nice job of mentioning Mike Tyson and that he’s a bit of a wildcard at Double or Nothing because he might get involved while Roberts said Archer will go after him. I loved Arn’s line towards the end when he said he wanted Jake to be real limber for when Arn hits him with a spinebuster. I don’t expect Arn or Jake to take many bumps, but they’re probably able to do one or two spots at ringside, so it will be interesting to see what they do at Double or Nothing. I think I’m picking Cody to win the title.

There was a Darby Allin video to promote the Casino Ladder Match. Allin was playing cards with guys that had faces of his opponent on them, then he pushed the chips in and was shown standing on a ladder.

Analysis: I think Allin might win the Casino Ladder Match. He could use a big win. I haven’t decided on my pick yet.

(Commercial)

There was a video shown of Pac sitting in his house while clips were shown of Fenix hitting a running kick on Orange Cassidy. Pac said that Fenix is an assassin and he lit a paper on fire to end it. I have missed Pac for sure.

Orange Cassidy made his entrance from wherever and weighing whatever. Cassidy was joined by Chuck Taylor and Trent, but Cassidy made them got to the back. Cassidy was in his familiar jean attire and a shirt with his own face on it. Rey Fenix went for a running kick, but Cassidy moved and went into the ring.

Rey Fenix vs. Orange Cassidy

They are both in the Casino Ladder Match on Saturday. Cassidy did his hands in the pockets gimmick, then he avoided a charge by Cassidy and Cassidy tripped up Fenix. When Fenix jumped off the top, Cassidy moved and Cassidy hit a dropkick to send Fenix out of the ring. Cassidy with an arm drag, Fenix hooked the arms and Fenix got a crucifix got a two count. Fenix with a jumping double stomp onto the back of the head. Cassidy hit a sunset flip bomb for a two count. Fenix with a jumping kick to the head and Fenix jumped off the middle ropes leading to a leg drop over the top onto Cassidy’s chest. Fenix is so great. Fenix grabbed a chinlock leading to a break.

(Commercial – The action continued during the break with Cassidy going to the floor to kill some time and Fenix met him with some chops. Back in the ring, Fenix stretched the arm across the bottom rope and a dropkick to the floor. They went back into the ring.)

The match returned with Cassidy doing the comeback with punches followed by a jumping forearm. Cassidy with a tope suicida on Fenix on the floor that barely had any impact, then back in and Cassidy hit a cross body block off the top followed by an impressive spinning DDT for two. JR noted that Jake Roberts beat people with that move, but a lot of guys can’t beat their opponent. That’s pro wrestling evolving, I guess. Cassidy went up top and Fenix hit him with a rising uppercut punch. Cassidy shoved Fenix off and Cassidy jumped off the top with a diving DDT for a two. Great move and nearfall. Fenix went for a move off the ropes, Cassidy had the hands in the pockets and Fenix hit an incredible Powerbomb out of the corner for two. Fenix went for a spinning slam off the shoulders, Cassidy countered into a rollup and Cassidy hit an Air Raid Crash for a two count. Kip Sabian showed up with a ladder on the ramp at ringside because they’re in the Casino Ladder Match on Saturday. Sabian sat on top of the ladder. Fenix hit a low blow that the referee didn’t see and Fenix hit a Cutter for the pinfall. The camera missed the low blow live. This went about 11 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Rey Fenix

Analysis: ***1/2 I thought it was a very good match. Cassidy impresses me any time he is in a legit match where he’s busting his ass out there. Those two DDTs that he hit were very good nearfalls. As for Fenix, I think he’s among the top five workers in AEW that makes everything look easy and he’s a lot of fun to watch. I’m hoping that he gets a bit of a singles push, but his brother Pentagon will likely keep teaming him when he’s able to get out of Mexico. Anyway, these guys worked well together. They missed the low blow on the live feed, so that’s bad directing because it set up the finish. Can’t miss stuff like that.

Post match, Sabian did a thumbs up to Cassidy and then a middle finger salute. The SCU guys Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian dumped Sabian off the ladder leading to Sabian bumping into the ring. Five of the nine guys were in the ring, then Jimmy Havoc went after SCU because he is Sabian’s buddy. The wrestlers went brawling outside the ring and they kept looking into the ring waiting for Fenix to hit a spot. Fenix jumped off the top rope and was supposed to be caught by four guys, but they didn’t do a good job of catching him as Fenix landed hard on the floor. Colt Cabana hit a moonsault onto guys on the floor who barely took a bump. They really did not catch these guys well. Trent and Chuck Taylor went to ringside too, where they launched Cassidy over the top onto some of the guys on the floor. Cassidy sat on the bottom of the ladder to end this.

Analysis: That was messy with guys doing spots and not being caught properly by the wrestlers on the floor. Fenix is apparently okay after that, but it could have been a lot worse. Anyway, it was a fine way to promote the ladder match that has barely been promoted going into the PPV.

The women made their entrance for a tag team match. The PPV matches going in are Nyla Rose defending the AEW Women’s Title in a No Disqualification, No Countout match and Kris Statlander vs. Britt Baker. Shida won a four-way last week to earn a title shot.

Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida vs. Nyla Rose and Dr. Britt Baker

Shida and Statlander each hit moves on Rose to keep the champ down. Baker bailed to the floor to avoid a double team attack. Statlander worked over Rose with forearms and a dropkick. Rose came back with a running pounce on Statlander to take her down. Rose choked Statlander on the middle rope. Rose with a body slam followed by a leg drop. The pacing was really slow here.

(Commercial – Rose remained in control with a sidewalk slam followed by a running splash. Rose hit a delayed vertical suplex for two. Baker was reluctant to tag in, Rose grabbed her throat and then Baker tagged in leading to Statlander getting a cradle for two. Baker kicked Statlander to keep her down.)

Statlander fought out of the heel corner with a kick and elbow. Statlander barely grazed Baker with a kick. Shida tagged in with a running attack on both opponents against the turnbuckle. Shida with a running knee lift on Baker. Shida with a forearm on Baker followed by a suplex for two. Rose went in with a running attack on Baker by accident and Statlander/Shida slammed Rose onto Baker with all of Rose’s weight crashing on Baker’s knee. That’s where Baker suffered a knee injury. You could tell Baker was legitimately hurt as she grabbed her right knee and the replay showed it was a rough landing. Statlander hit a spinning slam for two as Rose broke it up and dragged Baker to the corner. Baker was really hurting. Statlander managed to get Rose on her shoulders and sent her face first into the match. Shida tagged in with a missile dropkick on Rose followed by a running knee to the back of the head for two. Rose hit a suplex on Shida followed by a clothesline as AEW’s doctor was checking on Baker’s right knee. Statlander tagged in and knocked down Rose with a dropkick for a two count. I’m not sure why the referee was counting since Statlander was not legal and just went into the ring illegally. Rose hit a sloppy Northern Lights suplex on Shida for two. The referee Aubrey Edwards counted both women on the face team in different situations even though only Shida was legal. Rose picked up Shida and hit a Beast Bomb with Statlander too slow to make the save even though she was pretty close. It went about 11 minutes.

Winners by pinfall: Nyla Rose and Dr. Britt Baker

Analysis: * This was a poor match with a slow pace to it early and then when it was time to pick it up, they just didn’t seem to click. Baker’s injury obviously hurt the match and it fell apart most likely due to that. Even the referee was messing up more than usual by counting a pin attempt by an illegal wrestler. Slamming a huge woman onto another and not being careful about the landing is a bit reckless. Baker is hurt now because Rose was not slammed in the right spot.

Post match, Rose brought a table into the ring while Baker was getting helped to the back with her legit knee injury. Rose put Shida on the table. Rose went to the middle ropes, Statlander grabbed Rose by the waist and Shida hit a superplex off the middle ropes with both women going through the announce table. The “fans” chanted for Shida after that.

Analysis: It was okay as a post-match table spot. I think Rose will retain at Double or Nothing.

Jon Moxley was interviewed in a bar area by Alex Marvez. Moxley said that things will only get worse from here and he has a feeling that it’s going to get really bad at Double or Nothing. Moxley said that he’s going to drop Brodie Lee on his dome, Brodie is going to sleep and when he wakes up he’ll lose whatever power he has left. Moxley said all that Lee will have left is some dudes in creepy masks to help his shattered ego.

There was a SSN “Shawn Spears News” video presented as if he was providing a news update. Spears said that Dustin Rhodes has decided to retire from professional wrestling and he congratulated Cody. Spears said he understood while saying that retirement is hard to do, but swallowing all those pills 12 years ago wasn’t all that hard for him. Spears said that the fact that he doesn’t have a match at Double or Nothing is a travesty. Spears wondered who he has to piss off around here? Maybe he has to go into business for himself, so he challenged Dustin Rhodes to a match at Double or Nothing. Spears said now AEW has to book and promote this match. Spears said if you’re looking for Dustin, check him out at your museum.

Analysis: That was a clever way to get over Shawn’s personality in a news style segment.

After the video aired, the Shawn Spears vs. Dustin Rhodes match was announced for Double or Nothing. They went over the rest of the card that I have at the bottom of this post. Some of the matches have no storyline going in while others have been built up well.

Next week on Dynamite: The winner of a battle royal will face the TNT Champion on June 3 on Dynamite.

A video aired about Sammy Guevara’s match with Matt Hardy. Sammy complained about Matt running him over with a golf cart. Hardy complained about the tag team match a few weeks ago that turned into a 5 on 2 match. Last week on Impact, Jericho and Inner Circle buddies killed Matt’s buddy Vanguard 1. Hardy called the Inner Circle “obsolete mules” and he’s going to make them fade away until they classify themselves as obsolete.

It’s main event time with Sammy Guevara entering for his match with a 9-7 record in 2020. JR put over Sammy’s bright future at 26 years of age. I agree. Sammy is a building block for AEW.

(Commercial)

Matt Hardy entered as the opponent with a 1-1 record in AEW so far.

Sammy Guevara vs. Matt Hardy

Hardy with hard whip that sent Sammy into the turnbuckle, then they went to the floor with Hardy sending Sammy into the steps. Hardy pushed Sammy’s head against the ring post with Sammy making ridiculous faces to sell it. Hardy sent Sammy shoulder first into the ring post. Matt does a good job of breaking the referee’s count by going back into the ring, but it’s not like the referees in AEW are consistent about counting. Hardy sent Sammy into the barricade on the floor. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate, Sammy countered by using his hands and then hit a kick to the head. JR pointed out that Hardy’s been wrestling for 27 years while Sammy is 26 years old, so that means…Matt is old. There are still more guys in AEW older, but they only work four to five days a month, so that’s a nice gig. Sammy with a kick to the head, then he jumped off the ropes and Matt hit a reverse DDT for two. Hardy went for a Powerbomb that Sammy turned into a hurricanrana to send Matt out of the ring. Sammy hit a twisting dive over the top onto Hardy on the floor.

(Commercial – Sammy sent Matt into the barricade. Sammy drove Matt’s left shoulder into the ring post as payback for earlier in the match. Sammy also shoed Matt’s face into the ring post as payback from earlier. Back in the ring, Sammy punted Matt in the ribs for a two count. Matt ran the ropes right into a dropkick from Sammy for a two count. Sammy with a corner whip that Matt took sternum first leading to a two count.)

Hardy made his comeback by sending Sammy’s head into the turnbuckle repeatedly. Tony said it’s amazing that Sammy can get back in the ring after being run over. That’s ridiculous, but it’s pro wrestling announcers overreacting to things. Hardy hit a Side Effect slam for two. Sammy hit a side slam for a two count. Hardy hit a Cutter like move that led to Sammy rolling out of the ring. It was not exactly a Twist of Fate, but close to it. Matt rolled Sammy back into the ring for a two count. Sammy came back with a running knee to the face and a superkick. Sammy hit a better looking superkick for a two count. JR said that some of the best matches he ever called were TLC matches involving the Hardys, Dudleys, Edge and Christian. I don’t know if AEW people can mention those other guys that have WWE trademarks, but he just did. Sammy went up to for a Shooting Star Press, Matt moved and Matt hit the Twist of Fate and Sammy sold it like he did a head stand. It made the move look more impressive by how Sammy sold it. Hardy took off Sammy’s left boot and bit the toes, which is weird. Sammy came back with a rising knee for a two count. Sammy hit a springboard Cutter that probably should be a finisher, but it’s only a two count here. Sammy went for a Shooting Star Press, Matt got his knees up to block and Matt hit a Twist of Fate (with Sammy selling it like a headstand) for the pinfall win after about 13 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Matt Hardy

Analysis: *** They worked hard and had a good match. It’s not a very big match as a main event, though. It’s more like a midcard match. Sammy’s selling is great when he takes that Twist of Fate like a headstand because it makes it look more devastating. It feels like Sammy can beat the lower card guys, but whenever he faces the bigger names he’s there to do the job. A lot of Cutter-like moves in this match. When you repeat moves so much it hurts the appeal of the move a bit. Anyway, I believe that is Matt’s first singles win in AEW.

There were still about five minutes left in the show. Hardy got a steel chair from ringside. Chris Jericho and his Inner Circle buddies were on the TIAA Bank Field holding Kenny Omega against the goalposts and Jake Hager threw water on Omega. The audio wasn’t working for about ten seconds, but then it worked.

The Young Bucks were standing in the stands and hit cross body blocks on Ortiz and Santana were nice enough to run into the right spot. Nick Jackson hit Jericho in the back with steel chairs. Matt Hardy made his way there after running over to the field. It turned into a brawl on the football field with Matt hitting Ortiz with a baseball bat to the back. Ortiz hit Matt in ribs with the bat. Nick and Matt were fighting against the Inner Circle guys. “Hangman” Adam Page was running in from the other side of the field with clotheslines for Hager and Jericho. That was an impressive run. Page sent Jericho into a goalpost. The faces got the advantage while the heels backed away because that’s what heels do. The five man team of Omega, Page, Matt, Nick and Hardy stood together in the end zone that said “The Elite” on it. Page ended up walking away from the other four guys, so that storyline of Page being a loner still exists. That was the end of the show.

Analysis: It was a nice way to preview the Stadium Stampede match. It was nice to see Page and the Young Bucks back after about two months not on the show due to the health crisis limiting the travel of a lot of wrestlers in AEW. A lot of AEW shows end in brawling segments like that, but at least this one felt unique by having them battling in a stadium.

Three Stars of the Show

  1. Rey Fenix
  2. Matt Hardy
  3. Sammy Guevara/Orange Cassidy

The Scoreboard

This week: 6.25 (out of 10)

Last week: 7.25

2020 Average: 7.18

Final Thoughts

This was a step back from what they have been doing in recent weeks. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad show. I just felt like the matches were below what they usually give us. That’s probably because they have a PPV on Saturday where there’s more of a focus on in-ring action. A lot of the bigger names in the company weren’t in matches this week. Some of them weren’t even on the show, so that hurt too. At least they had some quality promos from Jake Roberts and Arn Anderson, but it’s not like they are wrestling at Double or Nothing.

In terms of matches, I thought Fenix vs. Cassidy was the best of the night although it was tough to see the guys fail to catch Fenix on his dive on the floor. He could have been seriously hurt, but apparently he’s going to be fine. The Hardy vs. Guevara match was okay. The problem is that it didn’t feel like a big main event. The women’s tag was a mess especially because they were sloppy in how they slammed Rose and now Baker is likely out with a major knee injury. It could have been avoided or they could have planned the spot better.

I think the Double or Nothing PPV lineup is good and I will cover it more in the preview that goes out tomorrow. I just think this episode of Dynamite wasn’t as interesting as previous weeks.

The next AEW pay-per-view is Double or Nothing on Saturday, May 23. Here is the lineup so far.

* AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Brodie Lee

* Stadium Stampede Match: The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Santana, Ortiz and Sammy Guevara) vs. The Elite (Kenny Omega, “Hangman” Adam Page, Nick Jackson, Matt Jackson and Matt Hardy) – They will have a match in the empty TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville.

* TNT Championship Tournament Finals: Cody vs. Lance Archer – Mike Tyson will present the championship to the winner!

* AEW Women’s Championship in a No Disqualification, No Countout Match: Nyla Rose (c) vs. Hikaru Shida

* Casino Ladder Match (Winner Earns Future AEW World Championship Match) – Darby Allin vs. Colt Cabana vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fénix vs. Scorpio Sky vs. Kip Sabian vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Luchasaurus vs. TBD

(The rules are: Two wrestlers start the match with another wrestler entering every 90 seconds. The winner is the first man to take the casino chip that’s above the ring and the winner will earn an AEW World Championship Match in the future. The chip can be grabbed at any time, even before all nine wrestlers are in the match.)

* Maxwell Jacob Friedman vs. Jungle Boy

* Dr. Britt Baker vs. Kris Statlander

* Shawn Spears vs. Dustin Rhodes

* Number One Contender’s Match: Best Friends vs. Private Party (PPV Pre-Show Buy In Match)
