There will be four title matches taking place on the Grand Slam episode of AEW Dynamite from New York City.

Over the last two weeks on AEW’s television shows, there has been an eight-man Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament where the winner gets an AEW World Championship match against Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF).

While the Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament drew a lot of criticism due to some of the names in the tournament as well as those not in the tournament, the finals took place on Dynamite from Cincinnati with Samoa Joe facing Roderick Strong.

Considering Samoa Joe has done lengthy promos with MJF and other interactions, it probably didn’t surprise the audience to see Joe get the win over Strong with the Coquina Clutch submission. That means Joe will challenge MJF for the AEW World Title at Dynamite Grand Slam on September 20th in New York City, which is where MJF will have a lot of crowd support since he’s from Long Island, NY.

After the match was over, Joe delivered this message to MJF, who wasn’t at Dynamite in Cincinnati:

“Oh Max! It seems my little prophecy has come true and next week, I go to your backyard and I’m coming for you. Because I’m going to beat you down and take everything you have kid. Everything.”

Samoa Joe also ended Dynamite by applying the Coquina Clutch submission to MJF’s best friend and fellow ROH Tag Team Champion, Adam Cole.

More Championship matches set for AEW Dynamite Grand Slam

Jon Moxley defended the AEW International Champion against Big Bill on Dynamite in Moxley’s hometown in Cincinnati. A bloody Moxley found a way to pick up the win. In addition to that, it was announced that Moxley will defend the International Title against Rey Fenix next Wednesday on Dynamite Grand Slam.

There was a women’s four-way match with the winner earning a shot at Saraya’s AEW Women’s Title for the Dynamite Grand Slam show. Toni Storm got the win by rolling up Britt Baker in a match that also featured Nyla Rose and Hikaru Shida.

Meanwhile, Dynamite Grand Slam will also feature a Title vs. Title match between ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli and NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston. That match was set up on AEW Collision last week.

There are six total matches set for AEW Dynamite Grand Slam next Wednesday, August 20th at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
