AEW Confirms New World Title Contender At Grand Slam Australia
AEW Grand Slam Australia had many exciting matches on the card tonight, but one of the most anticipated matches on the night did not have a title on the line.
Multiple stars have been vying for the AEW World Championship ever since MJF won the belt, with former champions like Hangman Page and Kenny Omega competing for a shot at the title.
Omega was defeated by Andrade El Idolo of the Don Callis Family to face Hangman Adam Page tonight at Grand Slam Australia, with the winner going on to challenge for the World Championship at Revolution next month.
Hangman Adam Page earns a big win on AEW Grand Slam
Both men put on a hard-hitting display for the Sydney crowd, which saw them push each other to the limit. Andrade and Hangman Page both came close to winning the match on multiple occasions, but neither of them budged.
Hangman showed extreme resilience to deny everything El Idolo threw at him. Don Callis became frustrated with Page’s efforts, and he distracted the referee as Page went for a Buckshot Lariat.
Andrade looked to kick Page between the legs, but the former World Champion caught his leg and responded with a low blow of his own while the referee was still distracted. He then hit the Buckshot Lariat to pick up the win and earn a shot at the World Championship.
