Current AEW Champion Reveals He Might Relinquish Title After Redemption PPV
A current AEW champion admits that a situation could arise in which he gives up a championship.
On the July 22nd edition of AEW Dynamite, “The Jet” Kevin Knight successfully defended the TNT Championship against a former 2-time TNT Champion, Darby Allin, in what was a terrific match.
Late in the match, Knight was able to counter a Scorpion Death Drop attempt and Allin bumped into referee Paul Turner, who bumped to the floor. Knight clotheslined Allin. Knight grabbed the TNT Title while referee Turner was on the floor. Allin was ready for Knight and hit a Scorpion Death Drop. Allin went up top, but Knight was there to trip him up on the top.
With Allin stunned on the ropes, Knight hit Allin with the TNT Title to the head. Knight went up top and hit a Coast to Coast dropkick across the ring. Knight tried to revive referee Turner. Knight went up top and hit the UFO Splash for the pinfall win.
At the end of Dynamite, Knight was back in the ring to hit the AEW World Champion Kenny Omega with the TNT Title. Knight posed with the AEW World Title and TNT Title to end the show since he’s challenging Omega for the AEW World Title at the Redemption PPV on July 26th in Montreal.
Kevin Knight Could Give Up The TNT Title If He Wins AEW World Title
While speaking to SB Nation, Knight spoke about potentially becoming “Jet 2 Belts” at Redemption.
“If all goes to plan, Jet Two Belts becomes a reality this upcoming Sunday, and I don’t see myself relinquishing it for anybody that comes my way.
I think I will let up and maybe relinquish the TNT title or, you know, let the other people have a little bit of fun. I don’t wanna take up all the time at AEW, but AEW is gonna be set up in the next 6 months if The Jet is on top.” (H/T Fightful)
Considering Kenny Omega won the AEW World Title on July 8th and is likely facing Will Ospreay at AEW All In London, it would be a major surprise if Knight beat Omega for the World Title at Redemption. However, in pro wrestling, anything can happen.
