A former WWE Champion recently spoke about their heartbreak after being released from the company.

On April 15, 2021, Mickie James’ name featured on the list of talents that were let go from the promotion.

James, who was a 6-time major singles champion with the Stamford promotion, later took to Twitter, claiming that she received her belongings in a trash bag, of which she also shared a picture.

The company’s decision was met with harsh criticism by fans, with a few previously released wrestlers making similar claims.

Stephanie McMahon personally apologized to the former WWE Champion and revealed that the senior employee responsible for it was also fired.

“I Was Devastated”: Mickie James On WWE Release

Mickie James served two stints with WWE. She emerged as one of the biggest talents during her first run, feuding with the likes of Trish Stratus and Lita on numerous occasions.

While speaking on Jim Conlan’s Into The Vault podcast, she spoke about her first release in 2010, comparing it to a breakup that left her heartbroken.

I honestly thought that I would be there for the long haul, I thought that once I got in the door and I was able to make that impression that I would be a part of the family and so when I lost that I was devastated. I was absolutely devastated and I was in a space of like I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I really had kind of lost my desire to do anything in the wrestling business. I was just really heartbroken.

It was like a breakup, it was a major breakup and you go through that grieving period and you grow through all this and I felt like I’d sacrificed so much and everything to get there and be there and to give them everything I could to be the best me. [H/T: WrestleTalk]

At TNA Sacrifice on Friday, James returned to the company, setting up a six-women tag team match against the Elegance Brand at Rebellion.
