18-Time WWE Champion Signs New Deal With AEW
This former WWE legend is now All Elite.
WWE legend The Big Show was one of the most well-known wrestlers worldwide during his peak. His size, combined with agility and athleticism, helped him stand apart from other giant wrestlers in the range of 7 feet in height and 500 pounds in weight.
The Big Show wrestled as Paul Wight, his real name, in WCW before signing with WWE and making a mark during the company’s Attitude Era in the 1990s and later, its Ruthless Aggression Era in the 2000s. He won several titles with the wrestling juggernaut and is a former 4-time WWE World Champion. He is also the company’s 12th Grand Slam Champion, having held all the major titles it had to offer.
In recent years, Wight has been working with AEW since he departed from WWE in 2021, when the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement on financial terms for a new contract. Wight has also cited creative frustrations as being one of the reasons for his departure from the Stamford-based company.
Wight has been a backstage presence in AEW, and a new report from Fightful Select says that sources in AEW close to Fightful have confirmed that his contract was to expire earlier this year, and that he has signed a new deal with the company. Although the length and other details of the contract are yet unknown, it appears that Wight is firmly under contract with AEW.
He last wrestled in 2024 and is currently undergoing a weight loss transformation. The 54-year-old also said that he wishes to see the final few years of his career at AEW.
WWE Legend Paul Wight Reveals His Dream AEW Opponent
Ahead of his in-ring return, Wight was recently heard talking about who his dream opponent will be at All Elite Wrestling in an interview with Simon Miller.
He cited Kenny Omega as someone he would like to compete against or tag with.
So, when I look at our AEW roster, even though he’s not a younger cat, he’s still somebody that I’ve had respect for a long time – Kenny Omega. I think Kenny is one I would think ‘man, I would love to either tag with Kenny or to compete against Kenny’.
Wight then said that he would love to have a heel run and go up against current AEW World Champion Darby Allin. He joked that size-wise, he could throw Allin around like he did Rey Mysterio back in his days in WWE.
I would love to have a great heel run and work Darby. I mean, that would be ridiculous. Cause I could sling Darby’s guts all over the place. Even the old school one where I slammed Rey (Mysterio) into the ring post when he was tied to the stretcher. I can only imagine the carnage I could do with Darby.
