Bayley Claims She Couldn’t Miss Mercedes Mone’s AEW Debut

Bayley Mercedes Mone Sasha Banks

Bayley has revealed that she simply could not miss seeing Mercedes Mone’s recent AEW debut in person.

The 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble winner was in attendance for Mone’s AEW bow on the 13th March edition of AEW Dynamite emanating from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Fellow WWE Superstars Naomi and Tamina joined Bayley to support their long-term friend, with the former Sasha Banks making her long awaited AEW debut, declaring that she was now to be known as the ‘CEO’ in a nod to her previous moniker of ‘The Boss’ in WWE.

The trio of WWE ladies were unsurprisingly not seen on AEW television and even took to social media site ‘X’ to post their disguises for their trip to their rival promotion.

In a recent chat with Alex McCarthy for Mail Sport, Bayley explained the reasoning behind her attendance at Mone’s AEW Debut, noting that it was an occasion she wasn’t prepared to miss:

“She deserves that. I mean, we all know everything she’s done for the industry. To me, it’s like, it doesn’t matter where she is or what country she is in or what company she works for.

She makes wrestling special because she’s so passionate about it, and she loves it so much. So just her being back in a ring I think just brought the wrestling world together. That’s something I couldn’t miss.”

Bayley Opens Up About Emotional Bond With Mercedes Mone

Bayley and Mercedes Mone have a storied history together having met in the main event of NXT: Brooklyn in 2015. The critically acclaimed bout at a sold out Barclays Center has long been touted as a key moment in the women’s wrestling revolution that followed.

The pair also became the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at Elimination Chamber in February 2019 and Bayley has revealed that the bond with her former Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection team mate is for life:

“There’s certain people in your life and in your career that you share moments with that that bond you for life.

For us, that started from the moment we met to our first practice match we had the second day we knew each other, and then to Brooklyn. It’s like, when you share those things together, it’s like, alright, well, we’re bonded for life. I will always be there for you.

So no matter where she is, I will always be there for her just like she’s been for me.”
