Roman Reigns Will Face John Cena at WWE SummerSlam

Contract signings in WWE are never straight forward and the latest offering on SmackDown was no exception. Despite not even being part of the signing, John Cena will face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam!

Cena had earlier opened the show, once again taking aim at Reigns and his run as champion. The 16-time world champion said that Reigns had to keep changing his character to make fans care before dishing out some life advice. Cena closed by saying that Reigns didn’t reject him because of how he looks, rather that Reigns was scared to fight him because of how he would make him look.

The segment closed with Baron Corbin coming to the ring and reaching out to Cena for help, in return all he got was an Attitude Adjustment.

Later in the show, Finn Balor and Roman Reigns came to the ring to sign the contract for their match at SummerSlam after Balor challenged the Tribal Chief last week.

However, before getting down to business, Reigns ran down Cena some more while talking up Balor, before laying the verbal boots to the Irishman was well. After Reigns signed the contract, Balor said that he would be proud to reclaim the title and take it back to NXT. But before he could put pen to paper, Baron Corbin returned and jumped him from behind.

After leaving Balor laying, Corbin entered the ring to sign the contract but Cena ran in to intervein. Cena then dispatched Corbin once more before signing the contract himself.

Backstage, Paul Heyman contested the signing saying it wasn’t legally binding, pointing out that Balor’s name was on the contract alongside Cena’s signature. Much to Heyman’s annoyance it was a detail that didn’t seem to matter to Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville who said that the contract was official.

Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against John Cena at SummerSlam on August 21st.
