WWE Fans are clamoring to know whether Gunther will make it to WrestleMania 42 or not.

The Ring General had everyone talking with his heel work as he retired three generational legends, Bill Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, in less than a year. However, The Career Killer’s absence from active programming right after has left fans disappointed and confused. Interestingly, we have now received an update on what Triple H had planned for The Austrian at WM42.

Gunther Was Going To Retire Another Iconic WWE Legend

Right after The Ring General ended the career of AJ Styles at the 2026 Royal Rumble, he started to slander the name of The Phenomenal One. This didn’t sit well with Dragon Lee, who was Styles’ World Tag Team Championship partner. After weeks of feuds and ambushes, the luchador faced Gunther on the March 2, 2026, episode of RAW.

The former two-time World Heavyweight Champion emerged as the winner and disappeared from television right after. However, Bryan Alvarez reported on Wrestling Observer Live that this win should have been followed by Rey Mysterio coming into the picture.

The Latino World Order leader was supposed to be Gunther’s WrestleMania 42 opponent. However, he unexpectedly received a rib injury that derailed WWE’s plans.

Thus, it is unclear so far whether the match will still be on. However, The Ring General is not expected to miss WM42. Triple H could arrange a new opponent for him and push him in a new storyline. But with just three episodes of RAW remaining before ‘Mania, The Game doesn’t have a lot of time on his hands.
