Triple H has made a very unusual WrestleMania 42 announcement.

The current WWE storylines are seeing several title changes just weeks ahead of the Showcase of the Immortals. This week, another championship changed hands on SmackDown. Following this, The Game has sent a rather surprising update for the WM42 match card.

Triple H Denies the Former Champion a Rematch at WWE WrestleMania 42

Taking to X, HHH posted a tweet and uploaded the poster for the United States Championship match. The newly crowned champ, Sami Zayn, will head to Las Vegas and defend the title against Trick Williams. Captioning the post, Triple H wrote:

New champion. New Challenger. @SamiZayn will defend the #USTitle against @_trickwilliams at #WrestleMania!”

This completely takes out the previous titleholder, Carmelo Hayes, from the equation, who was defending his title almost every week in open challenges. Moreover, Melo lost the belt owing to Trick Williams’ interference that allowed Sami Zayn to land a Helluva Kick to dethrone HIM.

Zayn and Williams have been in several arguments backstage, with Trick Willy constantly berating the Canadian wrestler for not getting the job done. On the other hand, however, Williams and Hayes have a mountain of history between them from their time in WWE NXT.

Williams and Melo have been both allies and big-time rivals in the developmental brand, and thus, many fans believe that Hayes should have defended his title at ‘Mania against Mr. Lemon Pepper Steppers.

At the same time, the decision to crown Zayn as the new United States Champion has steered him from his world title pursuit once again. It would be interesting to see what Triple H has in mind with this sudden change that derailed two of WWE’s ongoing storylines.
