High Stakes WrestleMania Match Pitched For Gunther; WWE Career On The Line

Gunther is still not booked for WWE WrestleMania 42.

The Ring General has been receiving a massive push since his arrival on the main roster nearly four years ago. Over the past few months, the former World Heavyweight Champion has become a career killer, retiring WWE legends Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles.

The 38-year-old was reportedly set to square off with WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at this year’s Show of Shows. However, the plans were derailed by the Master of the 619’s recent injury.

Gunther To Issue An Open Challenge At WWE WrestleMania?

On a recent episode of the Busted Open podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray and his co-host Dave LaGreca discussed Gunther’s WrestleMania status.

Bully Ray pitched that The Ring General issue an open challenge at WrestleMania, with the twist that anyone who accepts would have to put their career on the line.

Here’s what I would do, and I don’t have the logistics worked out. I don’t know who the person would be, but I would buy myself time with Gunther. Gunther’s been retiring talent left and right, correct? I would now do Gunther’s open challenge at WrestleMania with the stipulation: whoever accepts the open challenge, if they lose, must retire.

Now, I would look for a veteran wrestler that could come in, get a pop, work five minutes, get beat, and now Gunther’s retired somebody else. And I would get Gunther pat this WrestleMania and hopefully get him to Brock at SummerSlam and keep him on track. [0:59 onwards]
