Gunther To Miss WWE WrestleMania 42? Huge Update
Gunther has been the mainstay of multiple major storylines since last year.
Since returning from surgery following SummerSlam, The Ring General was featured in the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent in wrestling.
The Austrian not only won the tournament, but also retired Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event by making him tap out to his chokehold.
He followed suit with AJ Styles, retiring The Phenomenal One at the 2026 Royal Rumble. Following the victory, he earned the moniker “Career Killer,” having also retired Goldberg in July 2025.
He soon entered into a brief feud with Styles’ former tag team partner, Dragon Lee, whom he unmasked and beat in a fierce back-and-forth action on Raw on March 2.
Three weeks have passed, and Gunther has yet to make a television appearance on the red brand. Many fans saw this as a sign of concern, considering WrestleMania 42 is just over three weeks away.
WWE Not Keeping Gunther Out Of WrestleMania 42
WWE’s initial plans were to feature Gunther in a match with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42, due to the latter’s close friendship with Dragon Lee.
However, the Hall of Famer sustained a rib injury at the Royal Rumble and has been out of action since then.
While fans of The Ring General worried about him potentially missing out on the Show of Shows, a new report by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select claims that the writer’s team has pivoted, and the 38-year-old will have a major role to play at the April event.
One of the sources even said that having Gunther miss the show would adversely affect the brand, considering his recent achievements.
So far, WWE has announced five title matches for WrestleMania, with Oba Femi taking on Brock Lesnar in a singles match.
