Major Update On Planned Matches For WWE WrestleMania 42
There is more known what’s going to take place at WWE WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
The 42nd WrestleMania is one month away on April 18 & April 19 in Las Vegas.
Following the March 16th edition of WWE Monday Night Raw, there are five matches that are official, including four title matches involving Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber match winners.
- WWE World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Roman Reigns
- WWE Undisputed Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Randy Orton
- WWE Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer (c) vs. Liv Morgan
- WWE Women’s Championship: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
- Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar
The Oba Femi/Brock Lesnar WrestleMania match was made official when Femi accepted Lesnar’s open challenge on Raw.
As for the rest of the card, it is coming together and fans watching Raw and SmackDown can clearly tell what’s coming.
WWE WrestleMania 42 Likely To Feature Lee-Lynch And McIntyre-Fatu Matches
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer had a big update on the card.
“Matches that have been confirmed to us on the show or announced are the two main events, Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan and Jade Cargill vs. Rhea Ripley for the two different women’s titles, AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch for the IC title, Lesnar vs. Femi, and Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu.
McIntyre vs. Fatu is scheduled for the 3/20 Smackdown show but it was described as something designed to heighten interest in their Mania match.”
Regarding The Vision on Raw, a lot of it depends on if Bron Breakker will be able to wrestle at WrestleMania 42 after having hernia surgery this year.
“In looking at other things, Seth Rollins vs. either Logan Paul or Bron Breakker seems like a likely direction. It has not been confirmed to us on whether Breakker will be ready after hernia surgery and we were [told] the Paul & Austin Theory vs. Usos direction does not necessarily mean Paul won’t be in that match and is unrelated.”
The Women’s Tag Team Titles looks like it will be a multi-team match of some kind.
“It certainly appears there will be a multiple team women’s tag title match with Nia Jax & Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, Asuka & Kairi Sane and the Bella Twins all seeming to be in that mix. I could also see something similar for the Smackdown tag titles.”
Even though Gunther has been featured heavily in recent months by retiring legends like John Cena and AJ Styles, he hasn’t been featured as much on the road to WrestleMania.
“Gunther doesn’t seem to have any kind of a program. Some think Rey Mysterio, who has also been injured. A Grande Americano vs. Grande Americano mask vs. mask match would seem to be a direction, whether at this event or later.”
“Carmelo Hayes seems to be in the direction of Ilja Dragunov for the U.S. title, Trick Williams with Sami Zayn as well as Giulia vs. Tiffany Stratton for the US title.”
Jelly Roll is expected to have a WrestleMania match too, but he may not be teaming with Royce Keys as mentioned by some reports in the past.
“There seems the possibility of something involving Jelly Roll. But that looks to be most of the show right there given there are expected to be 14 to 16 total matches over the two nights.”
As noted by Meltzer, WWE will likely have between 14 to 16 matches over the two nights on April 18 & 19, so there is still time to announce matches.
