WWE Considered Ex-World Champion As Roman Reigns’ Clash In Italy Opponent If Needed
Roman Reigns could have faced a familiar WWE superstar if his Clash in Italy opponent didn’t make it to the match.
For the WWE PLE in the month of May, Roman Reigns successfully defended the World Heavyweight Champion against Jacob Fatu. However, some doubt that the match will actually happen.
A few days before WWE Clash in Italy on May 31st, there were reports that Jacob Fatu could miss his WWE Title shot against Roman Reigns due to a legit back injury. However, Jacob confirmed before the show that he was fine and would be in the match.
During their Tribal Combat Match at Clash in Italy, Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu fought with a lot of weapons and even spilled into the crowd.
Since Roman Reigns attacked Jacob Fatu’s right hand throughout the match, it was difficult for Jacob to properly apply the Tongan Death Grip with his right hand. That led to Reigns breaking free and sending Fatu head first into the exposed steel turnbuckle multiple times.
To finish Fatu off, Reigns hit Fatu with a Spear through the table that was against the turnbuckle. Fatu was back up before Reigns, so Reigns ran the ropes and hit a Spear for the pinfall win.
As for WWE’s contingency plan if Fatu missed the match. False Finish reported that “one of the alternative plans was Drew McIntyre.”
Drew McIntyre has been off WWE TV since losing to Fatu at WrestleMania 42 and has been filming the Highlander movie. McIntyre is now free from his movie obligations, so he should be back in WWE soon.
Roman Reigns Is Confident After WWE Clash In Italy
Following his WWE Clash in Italy win over Jacob Fatu, Roman Reigns remains as confident as ever, as he explained in a post-Clash interview while mentioning some WWE superstars who might want to tangle with The Tribal Chief.
“I don’t think it really matters what it means for me. What does it mean for everyone else, huh? I can hear the chattering. LA Knight, Royce Keys, and this goes for any of you chumps back there, you want to run your mouth about the Tribal Chief, you want to run your mouth about my family?
You’re terrified about this Bloodline, ain’t you? You’re already seeing what’s happening behind me. I’ve been a general, I’ve had an army. I’m trying to do it the right way, I’m trying to shine a light on my legacy in a positive manner, but y’all are forcing my hand! Keep on trying me. I’ll run it all, forever!”
Also at Clash in Italy, WWE shared a video on its official X/Twitter account showing the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes walking backstage and bumping into Roman Reigns, the World Heavyweight Champion. The two men, who are former rivals (and tag team partners), had a staredown, but didn’t say anything to each other.
Even though no words were exchanged, it could be WWE’s way of teasing a Reigns-Rhodes match down the road.
