WWE Hall Of Famer Wants A Change For Mercedes Moné In AEW
A wrestling legend thinks that Mercedes Mone would benefit from a change in All Elite Wrestling.
Mercedes Mone made her AEW debut on the Big Business episode of Dynamite in March in her hometown of Boston. In the two months since then, Mone has appeared in the ring for promo segments and also in backstage interviews.
At Double or Nothing on May 26th, Mercedes Mone will have her first AEW match when she challenges Willow Nightingale for the TBS Title. It was one year ago in May 2023 when Mone broke her ankle in a match with Willow and Mone hasn’t wrestled since then.
While Willow is a babyface, AEW has been using Mone in a babyface role even though she brags about being a CEO and always references how much money she has.
The way Mone appears on camera has led to WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray (aka Bubba Ray Dudley) suggesting on Busted Open Radio that she become a heel rather than a face.
“I’d love to see Mercedes give me a different version of what she’s giving. I feel like I’m listening to [her former persona of] Sasha Banks, only this CEO version of Sasha Banks with a different name, Mercedes Mone.”
“There’s nothing about the woman that comes off as a babyface. She walks, talks, mannerism, tone, inflection, everything is heel. And for her benefit, I hope she turns heel, because I think being a heel is right in Mercedes Mone’s wheelhouse.”
Who Would Be A Great Opponent For Mercedes Mone In AEW?
As he continued, Bully Ray suggested that Mone could turn heel by saying she joined AEW to win championships and get paid a lot of money by AEW boss Tony Khan.
“Now who would you want to see punch Mercedes in the mouth if she ever said [that]? The good news is, you’d want to see any AEW female do that to her.”
“But who would you really like to see do it to her? Who’s that one female out there in AEW that we might not have seen in a while? Who’s the perfect former face of the place to defend AEW? The good doctor, D. M. D. Britt Baker. How about that, folks? A baby face Britt Baker versus a heel Mercedes Mone.”
The lineup for AEW Double or Nothing on May 26th looks like this.
AEW World Championship: Swerve Strickland (c) vs. Christian Cage
Anarchy In The Arena Match: The Elite (Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada, Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) vs. Team AEW (Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston, Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood)
AEW Women’s World Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs. Serena Deeb
AEW International Championship: Roderick Strong (c) vs. Will Ospreay
TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Mercedes Mone
