WWE Tag Team Titles Will Not Be Defended At WrestleMania 32 Anymore

World Wrestling Entertainment confirmed last week that The New Day’s WWE Tag Team Titles would be on the line at WrestleMania 32 in a match against The League of Nations. WWE mentioned this in a tweet and on their website in the official match preview. However, this is no longer the case.

WWE’s tweet from their official WrestleMania Twitter account has since been deleted and the match preview on WWE.com doesn’t mention the titles being on the line anymore. Instead, it is now being promoted as a “Battle of Supremacy” between the two teams. It is scheduled to be a 4-on-3 Handicap Match as we will see Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods vs. Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Rusev and King Barrett.

Mark’s reaction: I’m for the Tag Team Titles not being on the line in this match as The New Day has already beaten The League of Nations more than once in recent weeks. They don’t deserve another shot on the “grandest stage of them all.” I especially like the Tag Team Titles not being on the line because it was going to be a 4-on-3 Handicap Match. I don’t think the Tag Team Titles have ever been defended in such a manner and I wouldn’t like it if they were defended in a match like that. I feel that would be stretching The Freebird Rule into a really weird place. Ideally, I’d want to see The New Day defend their tag titles at WrestleMania, but this isn’t the right match to do it in. It would only raise more questions about the rules of the tag titles and how they can be defended.
