WWE Star Tried To Get Will Ospreay To Join Company

Will Ospreay in AEW

Will Ospreay has revealed that a top WWE Superstar attempted to lure him to the company before he joined AEW.

The November 2023 signing of Ospreay, who is widely considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world, was seen as somewhat of a coup for Khan with the former IWGP World Champion heavily linked with a switch to WWE in the build up to the announcement.

Things could have been different, however, had another top Superstar who had previously made huge waves in Japan been able to convince Ospreay to join him in WWE.

Speaking during a recent appearance on AEW Unrestricted, ‘The Aerial Assassin’ explained that former WWE Champion AJ Styles attempted to convince him to join WWE whilst a free agent:

“AJ was on the phone to me when he was trying to, I guess the right word would be ‘sway’ in making my decision on which company I should (sign with). And it flatters me because AJ is my hero, everything I wanted to become.”

Ospreay would go on to reveal that whilst Styles had always been a hero of his, he remained happy with his decision to pen a deal with Tony Khan’s organisation.

“I feel like he’s always kept an eye on me. I feel like even now, I guess that’s what the phone call was about, but he always keeps an eye on me every now and again but for me, coming (to AEW) was the right thing to do. I just knew coming here, I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to be part of a change in the culture.”
