Former SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella appears to have suffered a head injury during a WWE live event, leaving her unable to compete in her scheduled Triple Threat match.

On August 7th, Carmella faced Asuka and Bianca Belair at a live event in North Charleston, South Carolina. However, an apparent head injury early in the bout removed the four-time 24/7 Champion from the equation.

According to fans who were in attendance, the referee threw up the X signal to indicate an injury to the star. She was, however, able to walk backstage under own power, although officials were said to be “shielding her eyes from the lights“.

The injury seemingly occurred when Bianca Belair attempted a sunset flip which led to Carmella’s head hitting the corner of the ring. She was then unable to rejoin the match.

The real-life Leah Van Dale is one of the company’s most successful female Superstars. As well as holding the SmackDown Women’s Championship and 24/7 title, ‘Mella is a former Women’s Tag Team and 24/7 Champion, Money in the Bank match, WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal, and Mixed Match Challenge competition.

Her victory in the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in June 2017 also landed Carmella a spot in the Guinness World Records as she held the briefcase for the longest period of time before officially cashing in the following April.
