Top WWE Star: “By No Means Do I Want To Be The Next Rock”
This major WWE star has been getting compared to The Rock, and he has recently shared his thoughts on the matter.
The Rock is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars to emerge from the wrestling business and is one of WWE’s all-time greats.
One current star who is getting compared to The Great One is Trick Williams, the star who made a name for himself on NXT before getting promoted to the main roster a few months ago.
Williams has catchphrases like “let’s talk about it,” “lemon peppa steppas,” and “whoop that trick,” and catchphrases were something that were The Rock’s specialty. Williams’ charisma and aura are sure to remind people of The Rock, too, and it’s something WWE commentator Wade Barrett has alluded to.
In a recent interview with The Sun (US edition), Williams was asked about how he handles being compared to the likes of The Rock, and the 31-year-old star said that even though The Rock was a major influence on him, he plans to do what The People’s Champion did without trying to be exactly like him.
WWE Star Trick Williams Shares His Thoughts On Being Compared To The Rock
Williams revealed that he was influenced by The Rock’s work growing up and always wanted to know what it felt like to get a pop like The Brahma Bull did when he made his way out to the ring. He also reveals that he was mesmerised by Rock’s ability to control the crowd with just his voice.
Interviewer: Wade Barrett recently told us you remind him of The Rock, and he’s not the first person to say that. How do you take such lofty comparisons?
Trick Williams: Yeah, man, so shout out to Wade with the fade, that’s what I call him. But, yeah, as far as when it comes to The Rock, you know, The Rock was one of those guys who made me wanna actually be in the business in the first place.
I used to watch his promos and how he could control the crowd with his voice, and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever.
Even more so than a wrestler, just how he was so charismatic, so stoic that the people were just captivated with everything that he said.
Williams goes on to say that The Rock was one of the reasons he got into the wrestling business, but after studying how The Great One did what he did, Williams intends to do his own version of it.
So when I actually decided I’m gonna pursue this business, I’m gonna become a WWE superstar. He was one of the reasons that I was really studying and watching the things that he did, not to become the Rock, not to be just like the Rock, but so the crowd scream as soon as they heard the first bit of your music.
I wanted to know what it felt like to just come out flying and just sit there and let the people feel your presence. So, there’s a lot of things that The Rock did that influenced me as a performer, but by no means do I want to be the next Rock.
I got to be the new Trick Williams, the one and only Trick Williams, because what The Rock has done has already been done. So I gotta find a way to do it.
Trick Williams is set to face Sami Zayn for the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania 42.
