WWE Star Failed To Set Championship Record Due To Recent Loss

A WWE superstar was close to setting a championship record, but a recent loss prevented it from happening.

In the main event of NXT this past Tuesday, Dominik Mysterio beat Wes Lee to become the NXT North American Championship in what was Dominik’s first NXT singles match.

It was a cheap win for Dominik, who is part of The Judgment Day with Finn Balor, Damian Priest and the Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. Balor distracted the referee, Priest tried to hit Lee with the North American Title, but Lee avoided it and kicked Priest out of the ring. However, Ripley was there to hit Lee with the Women’s World Title and Dominik covered Lee to win the NXT North American Title.

Wes Lee losing the NXT North American Title put an end to his 269-day reign as the champion. That’s the longest reign for the NXT North American Championship.

The WWEStats Twitter account noted that Wes Lee was less than a week away from holding the record for most combined days as the NXT North American Champion. That record is held by Carmelo Hayes.

Carmelo Hayes had two reigns as the NXT North American Champion totaling 273 days, so Wes Lee was just four days short of the record. The NXT North American Champion only has a five-year history, but it has been held by some of the best wrestlers in NXT history.
