Current WWE Gimmick Was Allegedly A “Death Sentence”

El Grande Americano WWE

This popular luchador gimmick in WWE is currently played by two wrestlers.

The El Grande Americano character performs alongside his fellow luchadors, Rayo and Bravo Americano, on WWE’s Raw brand.

The character is played by Ludwig Kaiser, who took over from Chad Gable, who originally introduced the character about a year ago.

The character was over with the fans when Gable played him, despite them knowing it was him behind the mask.

Gable returned at the 2026 Royal Rumble once again as the Original El Grande Amerciano to eliminate Kaiser’s version from the match.

WWE’s Corey Graves Gives His Thoughts On El Grande Americano

WWE announcer Corey Graves said recently in a sit-down with Steel City Sunday that Ludwig Kaiser took the El Grande Americano character, which, according to Graves, was “a death sentence” and made it his own.

Talk about somebody who took a gimmick that was effectively a death sentence. and turned it into, I mean, he is a megastar, it’s crazy he’s a bigger star in Mexico than he is in the United States, which is wild, and I heard rumors he’s European, which makes it all funnier.

The comedic shenanigans between the Americano characters continued on the Feb 2 episode of Raw when Gable, as the Original El Grande Americano, came out to cost Kaiser’s version a match against JeVon Evans.
