WWE SmackDown: Sami Zayn Set For Title Defense Tonight, WrestleMania Plans in Jeopardy
One of the most interesting things on WWE SmackDown for the last few months has been the constant defenses of the United States Championship, via several intriguing open challenges.
The US Title open challenge was brought back by Sami Zayn when he won the belt for the first time back in August. The challenge was then continued by both men who came after Zayn, Ilja Dragunov, and Carmelo Hayes.
Melo hosted another open challenge last week on WWE SmackDown, but lost his title to Sami Zayn after Trick Williams helped him win the belt inadvertently. This win for Zayn meant that he will face Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42.
Former US Champion confronts Sami Zayn on WWE SmackDown
Both WrestleMania opponents were out in the ring tonight and made their claims about walking out of the Showcase of the Immortals as the United States Champion, before Carmelo Hayes made his way out.
Melo asked Zayn to grant him his rematch as the fans want to see Hayes instead of Sami, and the champion agreed that Melo deserved one as Trick got involved in their match last week.
After considering for a long time, Zayn agreed to Carmelo’s words and granted him a shot at the US title tonight. The winner of the match will go on to WrestleMania 42 and face Trick Williams for the title.
