WWE SmackDown: Sami Zayn Retains US Title But Trick Williams Has The Last Laugh
The main event of WWE SmackDown tonight had a lot riding on it as it had direct implications on the WrestleMania 42 match card. Last week on the blue brand, Nick Aldis confirmed to Trick Williams that he will have a match at the Show of Shows.
Later that night, Sami Zayn defeated Carmelo Hayes after answering his US Championship Open Challenge and won the title, earning himself a match at the Showcase of Immortals as well.
Melo confronted Zayn tonight as he won the belt after some inadvertent help from Trick Williams, and after a lot of consideration, Sami offered a rematch to Melo for the belt on tonight’s show.
WWE SmackDown ends with Trick Williams standing tall
The main event between the two wrestlers was an incredibly entertaining match, with Carmelo Hayes giving it his all for the win. He was favoring his left leg during the match after hurting it in the ring.
However, he still managed to get the better of Sami for the most part. Hayes hit him with a First 48 and went up the top rope for Nothing But Net, but Zayn rolled out, and Melo landed awkwardly on his leg.
The referee was checking on Melo in the corner of the ring when Sami took advantage of the situation and hit him with a Helluva kick for the win. As he retained the belt, he was finalized as Trick’s WWE WrestleMania 42 opponent, and Williams came to the ring with Lil Yachty and took Zayn out with a Trick Shot, before posing with the belt.
