WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Revists One Of Wrestling’s Most Iconic Rivalries
WWE has seen multiple legends retire from the business in the last few years, with two major retirements taking place just last year. Both Goldberg and John Cena hung up their boots in 2025, and another wrestler might be on his way out this year.
AJ Styles announced towards the end of last year that he would retire at some point in 2026, and it seems like his time in WWE might just be up. Styles faces Gunther at the Royal Rumble next week and puts his career on the line against the Ring General.
His decision was met with surprise by a lot of fans, and even the SmackDown General Manager, Nick Aldis, seemed surprised by the decision. He called AJ to the blue brand tonight, as he wasn’t the only one who questioned his decision.
AJ Styles met Shinsuke Nakamura on WWE SmackDown tonight
Styles was confronted by a former foe and friend, Shinsuke Nakamura, in Aldis’ office. The two have a long and storied past with each other, both in NJPW and in WWE.
Nakamura and Styles fought over the WWE Championship numerous times while Styles held the belt. He asked AJ to prove that he’s still phenomenal before taking on Gunther and challenged him to a match.

Styles immediately accepted Shinsuke’s challenge for Saturday Night’s Main Event, and Nick Aldis added the dream match to tomorrow’s card, which will bring an end to their storied history.
