WWE Pivots On Raw: Darker Plans Leaked For Roman Reigns-CM Punk Segment
WWE closed Monday Night Raw with a non-wrestling segment for a third straight week.
While CM Punk was a part of all three segments, Roman Reigns returned to television on March 16 after The Usos took his place last week.
Fans were expecting another heated exchange between the WrestleMania 42 opponents, but it turned out to be a case of mind games.
Despite claiming that he was in Reigns’ head multiple times, it was CM Punk who caved and attacked the Original Tribal Chief. In turn, Roman simply laughed in his face, asking the fans who was actually in whose head.
All it took for Reigns was to call Punk ‘old,’ as the 47-year-old snapped and dropped a punch square across his younger opponent’s face.
As soon as Punk landed the punch, WWE Raw GM Adam Pearce and other officials ran out to pacify the situation.
Roman Reigns had a few more things to say to the San Antonio crowd before he left the Frost Bank Center.
WWE’s Original Plans For Roman Reigns-CM Punk Segment Revealed
The March 16 taping of WWE Raw saw Roman Reigns and CM Punk play tricks with the audience, as both wrestlers claimed it was their show.
During Reigns’ last appearance, Punk claimed that Reigns was alone and was lying about his family having his back. He also promised to bury Reigns at WrestleMania, stating that he would not be alone then as Punk was going to bury Reigns next to his father, Sika.
For Punk to take a dig at Reigns’ late father was seen as disrespectful by many. Fans expected that Reigns’ appearance on Monday would escalate the issue by taking a personal jab of his own, which was the original plan.
According to a report by Bodyslam, Reigns was to respond with a darker line that referenced Punk’s dog, Larry, who passed away recently.
However, ahead of airtime, the creative team restricted the segment to personal insults and not make it even more controversial than what it had become.
