Updated WWE NXT New Year’s Evil Lineup For January 4 Including WALTER’s Return
The first special episode of WWE NXT 2.0 in 2022 will take place next Tuesday for what they are calling a New Year’s Evil event. We found out last night on NXT that former NXT UK Champion WALTER will be a part of the show along with Raw’s Tag Team Champion Riddle.
During last night’s episode of NXT, the tag team of MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter) were in the ring doing a promo where they challenged the NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel) to a Tag Team Title match. The champions dismissed the challenge while the leader of Imperium – former NXT UK Champion WALTER – appeared via the video screen to officially turn down the challenge. That led to MSK’s Shaman (like a mentor) Riddle to appear via the video screen to issue a six-man tag team match challenge for next week at New Year’s Evil. It will be Riddle & MSK vs. WALTER, Barthel and Aichner.
In another segment during NXT last night, AJ Styles interrupted a promo from Grayson Waller to inform Waller that Styles will be at New Year’s Evil next week. While it is not officially being billed as a match, it could turn into that. For now, it’s been billed as something where Styles plans to “confront” Waller due to Waller’s previous comments about the former WWE Champion Styles.
During the Championship Unification contract signing segment on NXT, NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes and Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong expressed confidence that they will win the “Winner Take All” match. We also learned that the winner of that match will be the NXT North American Champion only. That means the NXT Cruiserweight Championship held by Roderick Strong will be terminated following New Year’s Evil.
In the main event of NXT last night, Raquel Gonzalez & Cora Jade beat Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray to keep their spots in the NXT Women’s Title match at New Year’s Evil. That means that Mandy Rose will defend the NXT Women’s Title against Cora Jade and Raquel Gonzalez in a triple threat match.
The NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa and his New Year’s Evil challenger Bron Breakker did not appear in front of the crowd on NXT last night. They were featured in a video package to promote their main event match next week.
The lineup for the NXT New Year’s Evil special on Tuesday, January 4th looks like this:

* NXT Women’s Championship: Mandy Rose (c) vs. Raquel Gonzalez vs. Cora Jade
* NXT North American Championship and Cruiserweight Championship Title vs. Title match: Carmelo Hayes vs. Roderick Strong
* Imperium – WALTER, Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel vs. Riddle & MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter)
* AJ Styles will confront Grayson Waller.
