WWE NXT Goes Off Air Amid Controversial Finish To Women’s Number One Contender Match
WWE NXT had a huge main event planned for the huge show tonight in the Big Apple. The go-home episode for Stand and Deliver aired live from the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden.
The entire night was filled with segments that had major implications for this Saturday’s Stand and Deliver. The NXT Universe had already seen multiple matches be made official for this weekend’s show before the main event.
The final match of WWE NXT tonight saw Kendal Grey and Lola Vice compete to become the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship after it was announced last week.
Both wrestlers began the bout with immense confidence, and it was difficult to figure out which one of them would come out on top. Vice and Grey have never won the NXT Women’s Championship till now, and they gave it their all tonight.
No clear challenger for the NXT Women’s Title
As the match headed towards the end, Grey had Lola caught in an ankle lock. She got out of the submission move and almost had Kendal choked out with a Guillotine Choke before Kendal hit a bridging Northern Lights Suplex, leading to a controversial finish.
The former Evolve Champion had seemingly won the match after pinning Lola as the referee called Grey the winner. However, another referee, who was standing at ringside, stopped the decision from being made final as he saw Kendal tap out simultaneously.
The match ended in chaos as both referees stood firm on their decision. Multiple replays and slow-motion footage seem to show that Kendal tapped marginally before the third pin count, but no conclusion was made on the show, even after Shawn Michaels came out to the ring and the show went off air in chaos.
