WWE News: Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View Will Take Place June 20, Money in the Bank PPV Likely in July With Fans in Attendance

There have been a lot of reports regarding WWE’s post-WrestleMania pay-per-view plans. Shows like Money in the Bank and Extreme Rules have been rumored to take place in June and July for example, but then we found out last night during WrestleMania Backlash that the next WWE PPV is Hell in a Cell on Sunday, June 20. That was rumored at all, but that’s what is happening.

The WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view has taken place every year since 2009 and every year it was in October except for 2018 when it was in September. There’s no reason given as to why WWE is choosing to do it in June this year, but it could be because WWE feels like some of the feuds they have right now are hot enough to where they can conclude in Hell in a Cell matches.

On the Raw brand, a match like Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title could take place inside Hell in a Cell to put an end to that feud. They could also do Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair inside Hell in a Cell. On Smackdown, the Seth Rollins rivalry with Cesaro could lead to a Hell in a Cell match too. It’s not clear who Roman Reigns might be against if there’s a Hell in a Cell match for him. Typically, WWE will go with three Hell in a Cell matches at the PPV at most and usually not more than that.

June 20 is also Father’s Day in the United States, Canada and many countries in the world.

What we don’t know right now is if WWE is going to move Extreme Rules to October to replace Hell in a Cell in that month or if they go for something else.

As for the month of July, it looks like Money in the Bank will likely take place on Sunday, July 18 and that there will be fans at the show. The return of WWE fans at shows would likely begin with Smackdown on Friday, July 16 and then Money in the Bank would be next. No venues have been announced yet.

It was tweeted by Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast, who has gotten some stories in the past, and here’s what he posted in recent days.

As a reminder, this is just a rumor although it does make sense since AEW is going back to touring in different cities in early July as well.

Since the CDC in the United States has announced that it’s okay for people to do things without masks if you’re fully vaccinated then more things are going to open up, including wrestling companies doing shows on the road again.

TJR Thoughts: I think this is exciting news. While I have gotten used to the Thunderdome setting since last August, I miss fans and hearing fans at WrestleMania was awesome. Two more months of Thunderdome left and then fans are likely back at the show. I’m looking forward to it.

If WWE does go with Money in the Bank on July 18 in front of fans then they probably need to announce it soon and put tickets on sale in the near future as well because you need to let fans know that they can get tickets and give them time to book them.
