WWE Legend Believes AJ Styles Is The Shawn Michaels Of His Generation

AJ Styles

The Undertaker believes AJ Styles is the modern day version of Shawn Michaels.

The legendary WWE Hall Of Famer is uniquely placed to judge the comparative talent of Styles and Michaels having battled both men at WrestleMania.

‘The Deadman’ stood across the ring from ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ on two occasions at WWE’s top Premium Live Event, ultimately defeating his rival in an all-time classic at WrestleMania 25 before sending Michaels into retirement after victory in another fine outing at WrestleMania 26.

The Undertaker brought the curtain down on an incredible 30-year career a decade on from his last WrestleMania match with Michaels, besting Styles in a critically acclaimed cinematic-style ‘Boneyard Match’ on night one of WrestleMania 36 on 4th April 2020.

When asked about a modern day comparison to Michaels during a recent Patreon Exclusive Q&A Edition of his podcast ‘Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway‘, the 59 year-old was quick to highlight Styles as his choice whilst noting his appreciation for for the former WWE Champion as a human being:

“[AJ Styles] checks all the boxes. I don’t know if there will ever be another Shawn Michaels. I put a disclaimer on it, but AJ Styles can work with anybody. He can make anybody look like a million bucks and still be able to you know — AJ is not a big guy, but has the ability to work with anybody and make it believable, make it solid.

That doesn’t make AJ Shawn Michaels, but those are the two guys that have the generation’s [highest] work level. That’s my opinion, I’m sure somebody else will have a different opinion.

The whole Boneyard match happened is because I didn’t get a chance to work with AJ and that lured me. I really do [hold him in such high regard] as a human being and as a performer.”

AJ Styles Gave The Undertaker A Special Gift After WrestleMania Bout

AJ Styles recently revealed that he presented The Undertaker with a special retirement gift following their WrestleMania 36 match.

As a token of his thanks for the memorable contest, Styles delivered his hand-signed gloves to ‘The Deadman’, who in turn reciprocated the touching gesture some weeks later.
