WWE Interest In Controversial AEW Star Confirmed
WWE remains interested in signing another AEW star.
On January 19th, it was reported that Tony Khan had become so fed up with Britt Baker she may never wrestle for AEW again. The report claimed Baker was wildly unpopular in the women’s locker room after several controversial incidents and has become increasingly difficult to work with.
Although this was followed by another report that suggested the issues were “blown out of proportion,” Baker remains absent from television. In fact, she hasn’t appeared on Dynamite since November 13th.
Unsurprisingly, these claims led to increased speculation that Baker could move to WWE. However, things might not be as straightforward as some fans believe.
WWE Interested In AEW’s Britt Baker
As noted on WrestleVotes Radio via SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, WWE would be interested in Baker should she become available. But crucially, the company doesn’t expect her to hit free agency anytime soon.
“We followed up on the Britt Baker potentially being out of AEW story. We did ask an AEW source for clarification, which was met with no comment. We then asked the WWE source if the company would be interested in her if she became available. That’s the key, if she became available, which we were told a resounding yes, but they don’t expect that to be the case anytime soon.
WWE does not expect Britt Baker to be available anytime soon.”
The report comes after claims that Ricky Starks asked Tony Khan to release him from his contract, but that request was turned down. Starks hasn’t wrestled on AEW television since March 2024, and it’s believed he’ll join WWE when he becomes a free agent.
Meanwhile, Malakai Black will also remain in wrestling limbo for the time being as he waits for his contract to run out. It’s been reported that Black will continue to be All Elite until February or March, meaning he won’t be available to appear at the Royal Rumble.
